Whitewater, Wis. - The Warhawk softball team fell to UW-Stout in a WIAC twinbill at the van Steenderen Softball Complex Wednesday. The Blue Devils took game one 5-1 and the nightcap 7-3.
The UWW offense got runners on but struggled to push runs across the plate as the Warhawks left 15 on base across the doubleheader.
Rachel Radish (Merton, Wis./Arrowhead) paced the UW-Whitewater offense in the opener with a pair of hits - both doubles.
Josie Hammen (Combined Locks, Wis./Kimberly) suffered the loss in the circle striking out six while allowing eight hits in six innings of work.
Madi DeBennette (Wadsworth, Ill./Carmel Catholic) blanked the UWS offense after entering the game in the seventh.
UW-Stout jumped out to four run lead after two innings in game two.
Liv Ybarra (Chicago, Ill./Taft) gave the Warhawks a spark with a defensive web gem in the second. A Blue Devil batter laced a ball to right field. Ybarra had enough time to take a single step and launch into a full layout making the incredible diving catch.
An inning later, UWW put together its best offensive frame of the day. Radish tagged a single up the middle.
Dani Peshia (Newark, Ill./Newark Community) put the ball in play and a defensive miscue allowed both Warhawks to cruise into scoring position.
Baley Berndt (Wausau, Wis./East) capitalized with a RBI groundball.
Emma Giese (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) followed with a single to left center and she moved up 60 feet on the throw home. Ybarra traded places with Giese after smoking a double off the right field wall to plate the third run of the inning.
UWS countered with three runs of their own in the fifth for the final.
Maggie Ward (Downers Grove, Ill./North) had the hot bat in game two with a pair of hits and a walk drawn.
Brooke Hock (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) suffered the loss in the circle. DeBennette made her second appearance of the day before
Kaitlyn Marsh (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) closed out the game.
