Warhawks Drop Twinbill to UWO

Whitewater, Wis. - The Warhawk softball team dropped a pair of games to top-20 UW-Oshkosh Tuesday afternoon at the van Steenderen Softball Complex. The score of both games was 5-2.

UWW is back at it tomorrow for another WIAC doubleheader against UW-Stout starting at 3 PM.

The Warhawks struck first in game one with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Emma Giese (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) led off the frame taking one for the team. A throwing error on Auburn Roberson's (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) sacrifice had both runners in scoring position. JJ Jakosalem (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) capitalized with a perfectly executed squeeze to plate the first run of the game. The second run came on a Kaitlyn Weidemann (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) infield base knock.

The Titans knotted the game with two runs on two hits in the top of the fourth. UWO took the lead on a three-run homer in the fifth.

UWW threatened in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but Oshkosh got out of the jam.

Bella Eggert (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) registered two hits to pace the offense. Josie Hammen (Combined Locks, Wis./Kimberly) suffered the loss striking out five in five innings. Madi DeBennette (Wadsworth, Ill./Carmel Catholic) posted a fantastic performance in relief allowing a single hit in the final two innings.

UW-Oshkosh took an early lead in game two with a single run in the second and another in the fourth. The Titans broke the game open with three runs in the fifth.

The Warhawks got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Eggert led off the frame with a bunt single and Rachel Radish (Merton, Wis./Arrowhead) followed with a single up the middle. Dani Peshia (Newark, Ill./Newark Community) made it three consecutive base knocks to load the bases. Maggie Ward (Downers Grove, Ill./North) put the ball in play to the right side along Eggert to score on the fielder's choice. Baley Berndt (Wausau, Wis./East) tagged a single to right field to bring in the second run of the inning.

The Warhawk offense threatened throughout the game but left 12 runners stranded on the base paths. Eggert led UWW at the plate with three hits while Radish and Peshia each tallied two.
