Warhawks Score 15 in Final Three Innings, Game Two Postponed due to Weather

Box Score 1 The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team improved its win streak to 20 with a fitting 20-5 win over UW-Eau Claire. The Warhawks got just a single inning done in game two before being halted due to the weather. 

The Warhawks scored 15 runs in the last three innings of game one to win their 20th straight game, 20-5. Game two was halted due to rain in the top of the second, with the Warhawks leading 2-0. 

In game one, UW-Eau Claire started the scoring in the second inning, scoring on an RBI single & double steal attempt. The Warhawsk quickly answered back in the third, scoring their first two runs of the game from balk followed by an RBI single from Leyten Bowers (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point).

UW-Eau Claire tallied on two more in the fourth inning, taking a 5-2 lead after four complete. Once again, the Warhawks answered back in the next frame. Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) came in on a wild pitch, with Bowers connecting on a two-run homer to tie the game up at 5 runs. 

Franklin Kirchner (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Conant) pitched a shutout 5.0 innings in relief, keeping the game tied before the Warhawk bats got to work in the last three innings. 

A five-run 7th inning put UWW up 10-5. Evan Olson (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) led off the inning with a single, and was brought in by another single from Jackson Spring (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North). Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) hit a sacrifice fly to score another. Landen Seymour (Rockton, Ill./Honongah) & Dominic McVay both tallied RBI singles to cap off the five-run inning. 

The Warhawks added on three more in the 8th, loading up the bases with the first three batters. After two hit by pitches & one walk, Jackson Spring (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) was hit by another pitch to bring in a run. Hopper batted in a run, with a sacrifice fly from Seymour to put UWW up 13-5. 

The 9th was the biggest inning yet, with the Warhawks taking a commanding 20-5 with a 7 run spot. Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) got the runs started with a three-run homer. The Warhawks scored two more runs from wild pitches, with Hopper & Seymour recording the only other RBIs of the inning. 

Kirchner retired the side in order in the final frame to collect the win, finishing his day without giving up a single hit. 

In game one, Leyten Bowers (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point), Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles), Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), & Landen Seymour (Rockton, Ill./Honongah) all had three RBIs each.

The Warhawks made the most of their second game of the day before it was halted by rain. Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) hit a solo shot to lead off the game, sending the very first pitch out of the park. 

Jackson Spring (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) added another RBI single, extending his RBI streak to six games. As the Warhawks took a 2-0 lead. On defense, Gradin Taschner (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) allowed one hit in the first inning, but stranded the runner at second. 

The second game was postponed after the start of the second inning. The make-up date is still to be determined.
