WHITEWATER, Wis. — The UW-Whitewater volleyball team defeated Carthage 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21) on Friday. The Warhawks closed the second set on a 12-0 run, turning a 13-18 deficit into a 25-18 set win.
Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) was stellar and the senior set the tone with a phenomenal first set. Her three kills during a 7-0 Warhawk run gave UWW a 22-16 advantage. The Firebirds closed the gap to 24-20, but
Amanda Hillmann (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) finished the set with a kill from
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) for a 25-20 UWW win. Dix hit .636 with seven kills in 11 attempts in the first set.
UWW erased a deficit in the second set and scored the final 12 points to win 25-18 and take a 2-0 lead in the match. This time is was fellow middle

UW-Whitewater battled in set three forcing multiple set points before falling 25-23 to send the match into a fourth.
Carthage jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the fourth. The Warhawks quickly negated the Firebird momentum with a 6-0 run sparked by a Keaton Davis kill followed by a
Natalie Powers (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) ace and back-to-back kills from
Claire Dillon (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Dix. Dillon and Dix teamed up on a pair of blocks to cap the run and give UWW an 11-10 lead. The final five Warhawk points in the set came from three Dix kills followed by a pair of kills from
Gaby DiMotto (New Berlin, Wis./West) to seal the win. Dix ended with eight kills in 11 attempts while committing a single attack error for a hitting percentage of .636 in the set.
Lead UW-Whitewater offensively and defensively Friday, Dix hammered down 17 kills in 30 attempts with a single error - a .533 attack percentage - while adding 10 blocks. Hillmann hit .368 with eight kills and just one error while registering five blocks.
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) tallied 23 assists adding eight kills and three blocks.
Michelyn Hansen (Hillsboro, Wis./Hillsboro) dished out 13 assists while adding a pair of aces and nine digs. Powers held down the backcourt defense with 29 digs.
