RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-Whitewater volleyball team (8-8, 2-2 WIAC) defeated UW-River Falls (13-5, 1-3 WIAC) 3-1 on Friday. UWW closed the match by hitting .382 in the fourth set, using an 8-0 run after trailing 13-12 on the way to a 25-16 set win.
UWW bounced back from an early 5-0 deficit, using kills from
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) and
Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) plus an
Addie Bruns (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) service ace before Dix's block tied the set at 10-10. The Warhawks had set point at 25-24, but the Falcons answered with the final three points to take the opening set 27-25.
In set two, with the score knotted at 22, kills from DiMotto and Dix followed by a Falcon miscue evened the match 1-1.
The Warhawks had to battle late in set three as UW-River Falls had 24-23. UWW scored the final three points with a DiMotto block and a Falcon attack error before Dix capped the set with a kill.
An eight point Warhawk run with
Claire Dillon (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) at the service line in set four had UWW in front 20-13. Dix once again put the final touches on the set, hammering down a kill for the 25-16 final.
Dix led UWW with 19 kills while hitting .444 and adding four blocks. Krzus finished with 42 assists, nine digs, six kills and a service ace.
Amanda Hillmann (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) posted a team-high five blocks and added eight kills on a .333 hitting percentage.
Natalie Powers (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) collected a team-high 22 digs and added four assists and a service ace.
