Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Fall in Conference Opener to UWO

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team fell to UW-Oshkosh in their conference opening game on Saturday evening. Small runs helped the Warhawks keep the game close, but the Titans were able to close out the game from the free throw line for the 90-78 final.

The Warhawks kept it in a shoot-out to start the game, starting off with a 7-0 run early in the game to take a 10-6 lead just 5 minutes in. UW-Oshkosh answered back with a barrage of threes, going 5-for-5 from behind the arc in a 3-minute span for a 15-0 run.

The hot-shooting continued for the Titans, but the Warhawks managed to chip away at the lead before the break. The Warhawks managed to get the game within a single possession, entering the break down 37-34.

It was more three point shooting from the Titans that helped them keep UW-Whitewater at bay during the second half. The Warhawks managed to cut the lead down to five points a few times, but UW-Oshkosh went 6-for-9 from behind the arc in the second half.

UWW kept trying to chip away at the lead, but were unable to get momentum to shift the scoreboard with the Titan pressure. Free throws sealed the deal down the stretch, as the Warhawks fell to 9-3 on the season with the loss.

Richie Warren (Racine, Wis./Park) and Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) each finished with 17 points to lead the Warhawks. Warren added nine rebounds and four blocks to his stat line in a defensive game.

Brock Marino (Lake Villa, Ill./Lakes Community) matched Warren's nine rebounds, adding in 15 points of his own.

Luke Bara (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Warhawks with 14 points, making three three's on the day.

The Warhawks will stay at home for their next conference contest, bringing in UW-Stevens Point to Kachel Gym on Wednesday, January 7th. Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
