Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warhawks Fall to #14 UW-Stevens Point

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team fell to 14th-ranked UW-Stevens Point 79-71 on Wednesday night at the Williams Center. The Pointers second half rallies helped close out the game with the Warhawks falling to 9-4.

UW-Whitewater started the game red-hot, hitting three threes to jump out to a 12-2 lead. The Pointers answered back with a run of their own to close it to 13-14, and the margin stayed close the rest of the way with teams trading baskets.

The Warhawks went up by four a few times, but were unable to fully gain an advantage in the half, with UWSP closing it down to just one-point at the intermission.

The second half looked like it was going to continue to be a shoot-out, with neither team gaining more than a 3-point lead. At the 12-minute media timeout, the score was even at 47-47.

After the timeout, UW-Stevens Point went on a 8-0 run to push out ahead as time was running out. Luke Bara (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) hit a three-pointer to cut the lead back to five, but  late 6-0 run from the Pointers gave them an 11-point lead with just 2-minutes remaining.

Bara and Richie Warren (Racine, Wis./Park) each hit a three down the stretch but the Warhawks did not have enough time to fully mount a comeback.

The Pointers second half run was fueled by second chance points, collecting five offensive rebounds for 13 points. The Warhawks also struggled from the free throw line, only making 56% of their attempts (22-for-39).

Luke Bara (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had a game-high 27 points, making four 3-pointers and 11 free throws.

Brock Marino (Lake Villa, Ill./Lakes Community) contributed a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Rounding out the double digit scorers, Richie Warren (Racine, Wis./Park) added 10 points and blocked two shots. Tyshawn Teague-Johnson (Beloit, Wis./Turner) had two blocks of his own with seven rebounds.

The Warhawks head out on the road for their next contest with UW-River Falls scheduled for Saturday. Tip-off is at 5 PM in River Falls.
