Whitewater, Wis. -- The No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team swept Concordia University Wisconsin 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-20) in the Warhawks' home opener Friday evening. UWW followed with a second sweep, this time a 25-21, 25-15, 25-23 rout of Pacific Lutheran University.
The Warhawk defense was stellar in the opener of the invite. UWW held CUW to negative attack percentages in the first and third sets and an overall percentage of just .034 for the match. On the offensive side, UW-Whitewater hit .208 with double digit kills in each set.
Gaby DiMotto (New Berlin, Wis./West) had a phenomenal match against the Falcons. The outside hitter was hitting nearly .700 with 11 kills in 16 attempts through the first two sets. She ended up with 13 kills, tied for the team high, while committing just a single attack error.
Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) matched the kill output with 13 while registering a match high seven blocks.
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) tallied 33 assists adding five blocks. In the backcourt,
Natalie Lawton (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) posted 21 digs.
Emma Bludgen (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) joined her in double digits with 10. From the service line, Lawton and DiMotto combined for five aces.
UW-Whitewater's defense continued to excel through the second match. The Warhawks held the Lutes to a .071 and .000 attack percentage in the first and second sets respectively. The offense fed off of the defensive momentum hitting .292 as a squad with 43 kills in the three-setter.
DiMotto had another fantastic outing, leading all players with 12 kills and adding a match-high four blocks. Dix hit .500 with 10 kills in 18 attempts with a single attack error. Defensively, Lawton posted 12 digs.
Bludgen,
Kyanne Wusterbarth (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) and DiMotto put the pressure on the PLU defense from the service line - each notched multiple aces in the contest.
The Warhawks will wrap up play in the UW-Whitewater Invitational with matches against Elmhurst and Berry at 11 and 3 respectively in Russell Arena.
