Northfield, Minn. -- The No. 1 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team split a pair of matches in the Carleton/St. Olaf Invitational Saturday. The Warhawks swept No. 24 Gustavus Adolphus College 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 before falling to St. Olaf in straight sets 25-21, 25-13, 25-20.
The Warhawks hit .261 in the first contest of the day bolstered by a phenomenal second set where the team hit .371 with 16 kills. The defense held the Gusties to just .184 hitting as a squad including a single digit kill performance in set two.
Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) paced UW-Whitewater in the opener. The middle hitter hammered down 15 kills with just 2 errors for an attack percentage just shy of .600. She added three blocks in the contest.
Gaby DiMotto (New Berlin, Wis./West) joined Dix in double digits with 11 kills.
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) dished out 39 assists in the three-setter.
Emma Bludgen (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) was effective from the service line with three aces. Meanwhile,
Natalie Lawton (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) held down the backcourt with 23 digs.
Kyanne Wusterbarth (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) added double figures in the dig column with 13.
Neither team was efficient off of the attack in the second match. UW-Whitewater's offense struggled to find its footing hitting -0.028 while STO hit just .099.
Dix led UWW with five kills in the match and added nine blocks including three solos. Krzus dished out 15 assists, posted 4 blocks and added 4 kills. Lawton registered a team-high 20 digs.
The now 11-2 Warhawks will be back on their home court next weekend hosting their second invite of the season.
