The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team will have its first road test of 2025 this Saturday as the Warhawks head to Chicago to take on Saint Xavier University. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Deaton Field.
Saint Xavier University competes within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
RANKINGS
The Warhawks are ranked 19th in the latest American Football Coaches Association poll and 21st according to D3football.com. The Cougars are unranked in the NAIA rankings.
SERIES
Saturday will be the seventh meeting between the Warhawks and the Cougars. UWW has won all six of the previous meetings including three contests played at Deaton Field. The last time these two squads met resulted in a 28-20 Warhawk victory in 2019.
LAST TIME OUT - UWW
UW-Whitewater took down Carleton College 45-14 in their season opener last Saturday. The Warhawks put up over 500 yards of total offense including 436 yards on the ground.
After
Seth Adams (Utica, Ill./La Salle-Peru) split the uprights on a 23-yard field goal for the first points of 2025, the Warhawk offense took off. Four of the six UWW touchdowns in the contest were off of big plays including a
Tyler Vasey (Crystal Lake, Ill/Prairie Ridge) 91-yard kickoff return, a
Justin Klinkner (Two Rivers, Wis./Two Rivers) 59-yard run and a pair of huge TD runs from
Brian Stanton (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) (75 yards and 66 yards).
Stanton's brilliant performance - 201 yards on 7 carries (an average of 28.7 per carry) with two touchdowns - earned him D3football.com National Team of the Week and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.
LAST TIME OUT - SXU
After taking an early lead on a 42-yard field goal, the Cougars gave up 31 unanswered points to fall to No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan University. SXU was held to under 200 yards of total offense including just 88 on the ground.
Dominic D'Ambrosio garnered the majority of snaps completing 9 of 25 for 103 yards. He had a pair of interceptions and was sacked twice. On the ground, Tyreese Lee picked up 45 yards on 13 carries while four receivers hauled in at least two catches for SXU. Defensively, Terry Elias Jr. was the most active with 14 tackles and a pass break up.
