Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South), outfielder for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team, has been selected as the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) nominee for the Division III Commisioners Association (DIIICA) Men's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year.
The DIIICA Student-Athlete of the Year award recognizes graduating seniors or graduate students who have excelled in academics, athletics, service, and leadership within their Division III athletic careers.
Scolan graduated in May with a degree in Finance. Through his four years, he boasted a 3.81 grade point average, earning a spot on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll all four years. This past baseball season, Scolan was also named the Max Sparger Scholar Athlete of the Year by the WIAC. Scolan has also been recognized by College Sports Communicators (CSC) as he was recognized as a first team Academic All-American in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, he was named the CSC Academic All-American of the Year.
On the field, Scolan has wrote his name into the Warhawk record books, setting school career records in at-bats, runs, hits, RBIs, home runs, and walks. He earned two consecutive WIAC Position Player of the Year awards, and is a two-time first team All-American selection from both D3baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association.
During his time as a Warhawk, the team amassed a record of 160-42, winning the WIAC regular season title three times and the WIAC postseason tournament twice. In the NCAA post-season, the Warhawks reached three Super Regionals, and were the national runner-up in 2024 before ultimately winning the NCAA DIII National Championship in 2025. Â

Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) has worked with Helping Hands in Illinois. He was voted by his teammates as team captain in both 2024 and 2025.
After completing his career with the Warhawks, Scolan signed a professional contract with the Chicago Dogs, a member of the American Association of Professional Baseball.Â
Scolan was selected as the nominee for the WIAC from a group of individuals that included:  UW-La Crosse's Sam Blaskowski (Oshkosh, Wis./West – track & field) and UW-River Falls' Aaron Borgerding (Spring Valley, Wis./Spring Valley – football).
