Four Individual Titles for UWW as WIAC Championship Concludes

Men 4th, Women 5th - Patzka, Schlender, K. Czarnecki, & R. Czarnecki Claim Titles on Final Day

Oshkosh, Wis. --
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater claimed four individual titles on the final day of the 2025 WIAC. Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) - 1500m, Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) - 5000m, Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) - Shot Put, and Ryleigh Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) - Discus Throw.

Overall, the men's team finished fourth with a total of 121 team points and the women's team finished 5th overall with 97 team points. Over the two days, UWW Track & Field took five individual titles, two runner-ups, and eight third place finishes.

Track Recap
The first track event of the day featured both teams in the top three finishers, with the Men's 4x100 placing third overall with a 40.25. The Women's 4x100 followed it up with a second place finish at 45.98, just over a quarter of a second behind UW-La Crosse.

Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) picked up his 12th WIAC Track title in the 1500m, timing in at 3:50.26, less than a second ahead of the second-place finisher. 

On the women's side of the 1500m, Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) and Katie Erb (Winnebago, Ill./) finished back-to-back at the fourth & fifth spot. De La Cerda timed in at 4:43.12 with Erb just a second behind at 4:43.12.

After qualifying for the finals yesterday, Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) finished 5th overall in the 110m hurdles in a close finish. 

Kobe Chandler (Beloit, WI/Memorial) grabbed third place in the men's 400m. Chandler completed his lap in 47.82 to take bronze. Hannah Bilodeau (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) also took bronze in the 400m, timing in at 56.74 to take third on the Women's side.

The Warhawks sent three runners to the men's 100m dash finals. Sam Vargas & Caleb Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) highlighted that quick race, finishing fourth & fifth, respectively. 

Dakota Mitchell (Sun Prairie, Wis./West) & Cici Stennett (Barrington, Ill./) highlighted the women's 100m dash finals. Mitchell placed third overall with an 11.90 race, with Stennett right behind her at 11,96 for fourth.

The Warhawks claimed another bronze in the Men's 800m, with Drew Davey (Elkhorn, WI/) timing in at 1:53.31. Teammate Rhett Reuter (Darlington, Wis./Darlington) took sixth in the finals as well.

Vargas moved up on the podium in the men's 200m, placing third overall in the event with a 21.41. Andy VanZile (New Berlin, Wis./West) also placed in the top five, with a fifth place finish at 21.65.

The Warhawks sent four women to the 200m final after yesterday's qualifier, all freshman. Dakota Mitchell (Sun Prairie, Wis./West) & Kelly Huerta (McHenry, Ill./) were the top two. Mitchell placed fourth with a 24.55, as Huerta timed in at 24.85 for sixth.

In the 5000m distance race, the Warhawks had two runners in the top 5, with a championship claimed by Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion). Schlender regains his crown with a 14:33.70 finish. Chris Allen (Downers Grove, Ill./North) placed fifth overall with a 14:40.95.

In the final track event of the day, the 4x400 teams both placed in the top 4 of their respective events. The men's team took bronze with a 3:14.34, as the women took fourth place in Saturday's final.

Field Events
The Warhawks excelled on day two of the field events as well, claiming two titles.

Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) claimed the Women's Shot Put, with a 14.03m (46-00.50) toss on her third throw for her first WIAC title. 

Ryleigh Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) also claimed her first WIAC title, finishing first overall in the Women's Discus. Czarnecki reached 44.07m (144-07) on her best throw of the event.

Lexie Weier (Mineral Point, WI/) finished in the top-10 of the triple jump, with a 11.14m (36-06.750) jump. Max Wallace (West Allis, Wis./Hale) placed fifth on the men's side with a 14.06m (46-01.500) triple jump.

Tyler Jensen (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) reached the finals in the Men's Discus, eventually placing 7th overall in the event.

The Warhawks will compete in various Last Chance Meets next week, as they look to solidify their marks for the NCAA National Championship.

Friday Recap
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater track and field program opened competition in the 2025 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by UW-Oshkosh Friday. The Warhawk men hold fourth while the women are fifth after day one. 

Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) led the way Friday, claiming his fourth consecutive WIAC title in the 3000 steeplechase. His clocking of 8:48.35 won the event by over six seconds, is a facility record and is the fastest time in Division III this season. 

The Warhawk distance crew added more points in the final track event of the day - the 10,000. Dan Anderson (Eau Claire, Wis./McDonell), Chris Allen (Downers Grove, Ill./North) and Alex Metko (Brillion, Wis./) registered personal bests to finish among the top eight and register the fifth, sixth and seventh-fastest times in the program record book. Anderson crossed the line in 30:22.53 to secure bronze. Allen and Metko finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth with times of 30:25.41 and 30:26.86 respectively. 

Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) added third-place points to the team total in the javelin with a toss of 54.42 meters (178-6). He also qualified for the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with a prelim clocking of 14.68. 

Lincoln Begin (Greenfield, Wis./) posted a fifth place leap of 7.20 meters (23-7.5) to claim fifth in the long jump while Sean Larsen's (Waukesha, Wis./South) throw of 53.69 meters (176-1) was good for seventh in the hammer. 

A number of Warhawks advanced through the preliminaries Friday. Saturday finals qualifiers by event include: 100 -- Sam Vargas, Caleb Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium), Ben Bojar (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee); 200 -- Vargas, Andy VanZile (New Berlin, Wis./West), Carsen Rindt (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran); 400 -- Kobe Chandler (Beloit, WI/Memorial); 800 -- Drew Davey (Elkhorn, WI/), Rhett Reuter (Darlington, Wis./Darlington)

Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) paced the UW-Whitewater women Friday with a silver in the hammer throw. She recorded a mark of 55.76 meters (182-11) in the event. 

Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) added fourth-place points to the women's total with a height of 3.80 meters (12-5.5) in the pole vault. Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) crossed the line in 10:55.20 - a new program record - to finish sixth in the steeplechase. 

UW-Whitewater will be represented by numerous Warhawks in the finals Saturday. Advancing through the prelims were: 100 -- Dakota Mitchell (Sun Prairie, Wis./West), Cici Stennett (Barrington, Ill./); 200 -- Kelly Huerta (McHenry, Ill./), Stennett, Mitchell, Angela Dale (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet); 400 -- Hannah Bilodeau (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem); 800 -- Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger)

The 2025 WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will conclude Saturday. Day two of the meet begins at 11 with multi-events. Field events will get underway at noon and track events open with the thrilling 4x100 at 2:30.
