The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater track & field teams looked to improve their qualifying times in various Last Chance Meets across the Midwest.
On Wednesday in La Crosse.
Jackson Koppen (Sun Prairie, Wis./East) and
Connor Anderson (Waukesha, Wis./North) competed in their respective events. Koppen timed in at the 400m with a 50.74 to finish 8th overall. Anderson leaped 6.57m in the long jump for a 12th overall finish.
A larger contingency of Warhawks were in Rock Island, Illinois, competing in the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier.Â
The Warhawks filled six spots of the 100m finals on the men's side and four on the women's.Â
Sam Vargas was runner-up in 100m, timing in at 10.558.
Caleb Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) finished third with a 10.57 with
Andy VanZile (New Berlin, Wis./West) fourth at 10.64. Vargas also ran in the 200m, finishing in 21.27 to improve his top-mark to 26th in DIII.Â
On the women's side
Cici Stennett (Barrington, Ill./) placed third with an 1.96, the 36th top mark in NCAA DIII this year.
Angela Dale (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) followed her four fourth with a 12.02.
Dakota Mitchell (Sun Prairie, Wis./West) set a new personal record in the 200m on the women's side. The WIAC newcomer of the year, timed in at 24.35, the 18th fastest time in Division III.
Kelly Huerta (McHenry, Ill./) &
Hannah Bilodeau (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) also set top-marks. Bilodeau marked a personal best with a 24.92.Â
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) set a season best for herself in the 800m, timing in at 2:12.67. Fellow distance runner
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) set her own personal best in the 3000m steeplechase, finshing fourth overall with a time of 10:45.95.
On the men's side of the distance events, the Wharawks had three runners in the 1500m.
Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) finished sixth in the event with a 3:51.97 while
Dan Anderson (Eau Claire, Wis./McDonell) timed a new personal with a 3:54.23.
To wrap up the competition on Wednesday, the Warhawk relay teams both set new Warhawk records, looking to improve their standings at the top of the nation.Â
The men's 4x100 timed in at 40.07, a new school record and the fourth best time in Division III this season.Â
The women's 4x100 also set a new top mark with a 45.67. The new UWW school record marked a new facility record at Augustana and the second fastest mark in NCAA DIII.Â
The throw events spanned from Wednesday to Thursday.
Sean Larsen (Waukesha, Wis./South) finished 10th overall (52.99m) in the Men's Hammer Toss. While
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) placed 6th (51.94m) in the Women's Hammer Toss.
On Thursday, Czarnecki competed in both the discus and the shot put, placing in the top eight of both events. Czarnecki placed 8th in the discus put with a 43.27m and 7th in the shot put with a 13.43m.
Rounding out the throwers on Thursday,
Tyler Jensen (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) competed in the second heat of the Men's Discus. Jensen had his best throw on his third, going for 43.80m.Â
The national qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be released this upcoming weekend on the NCAA's website. The National Championship will be on May 22nd-24th in Geneva, Ohio.Â
