UW-W Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week (April 7th)

Baseball

Position: Jackson Spring – Freshman – Infielder – St. Charles, Ill/St. Charles

Jackson Spring collected his first collegiate starts in the Warhawks’ weekend series against UW-River Falls. The freshman had 10 hits in just 13 at-bats, adding a double and a triple. In the final game of the series, Spring went a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate with 5 RBIs.

Hansen, Cade

Pitcher: Cade Hansen – Junior – RHP – New Braunfels, Texas/Smithson Valley

Cade Hansen started the Warhawks off in the conference series against UW-River Falls. In the series opener, Hansen earned the win, going 6.0 innings. The junior only allowed 2 hits and no earned runs while striking out 5 batters and not issuing any walks.

Softball

Position: Kiarra Kostroski – Senior – First Base – Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson

Kiarra Kostroski paced the Warhawk offense in a 2-2 week on the diamond. The senior was 6-11 with a batting average of .545 in four games. Kostroski drew a pair of walks while adding a double and an RBI. For the week, her on base percentage was .615.

Pitcher: Brooke Hock – Junior – Pitcher – Green Bay, Wis./Preble

Brooke Hock picked up a win in a pair of appearances in the circle last week. The junior registered a win in three innings of relief work against Illinois Wesleyan. In that game, she scattered two hits across three innings while striking out a pair. Against North Central, Hock tossed the final 4.2 innings in a no decision striking out four and allowing three hits along the way. For the week, Hock posted a 0.91 earned run average with six strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work.

Men's Tennis

Singles: Will Ulrich – Senior – Lincoln, Neb./Pius X

Will Ulrich clinched the match for the Warhawks with a third-set victory at the fifth singles flight. The senior picked up the first set, but the Kohawks forced a third set winning the set tiebreaker. Ulrich kept fighting for a 6-2 third set to clinch the winning team point.

Doubles: Will Ulrich – Senior – Lincoln, Neb./Pius X & Drew Van Fossen – Senior – Germantown, Wis./Germantown

Will Ulrich and Drew Van Fossen picked up both of their doubles flights in the Warhawks two duals this week. Against Gustavus Adolphus, the pair were the only doubles win for the Warhawks, with a 7-5 victory. Ulrich and Van Fossen then clinched the doubles point on Sunday against Coe, winning their second flight 6-4.

Track & Field

Vargas, Samuel

Men's Track: Sam Vargas – Freshman – Sprints – Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead

Sam Vargas won the 100 meters at the Rex Foster Twilight last week. The freshman crossed the line in 10.64 to win the event by three-tenths. His mark is ranked among the top 30 in Division III and is the third-fastest in the WIAC this season.

Cystrunk, Marlon

Men's Field: Marlon Cystrunk – Senior – Javelin – DeForest, Wis./DeForest

Marlon Cystrunk won the javelin by nearly 12 feet at the Rex Foster Twilight last week. The senior registered a career-best mark of 52.61 meters (172-7). He also finished second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.87.

Women's Track: 4x100 Relay – Danielle Pouska – Junior – Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs; Dakota Mitchell – Freshman – Sun Prairie, Wis./West; Kelly Huerta – Freshman – McHenry, Ill./McHenry; Cici Stennett – Freshman – Barrington, Ill.

The UW-Whitewater women’s 4x100 relay team set the program record at the Rex Foster Twilight last week. Danielle Pouska, Dakota Mitchell, Kelly Huerta and Cici Stennett combined for a clocking of 46.46 – ranked third in Division III and the fastest in the WIAC this season.

Holland, Gracie

Women's Field: Gracie Holland – Senior – Pole Vault – Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield

Gracie Holland broke the UW-Whitewater record in the pole vault at the annual Rex Foster Twilight on Friday. The senior broke her own record with a height of 4.03 meters (13-2.5) – ranked second on the Division III outdoor performance list this season.
