The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team got their revenge against UW-Oshkosh with a doubleheader sweep to finish out the conference series. The Warhawks (28-2, 18-2 WIAC) took game one, 11-5, followed by a comeback 10-7 victory in game two over the Titans (21-11, 12-8 WIAC).
The Warhawks did not waste any time in game one, with
Eli Frank (Bayport, Wis./Bay Port) starting the game with an RBI double.
Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) followed it up with his own RBI single, putting the Warhawks ahead by two runs after only three outs.
The two WIAC powerhouses traded runs in the 2nd & 3rd, but the Warhawks held the narrow lead after three complete, 3-2.
The offenses for both teams were slowed down in the middle game, but Frank added another RBI with a sacrifice fly in the 5th. The Warhawks then extended their lead with a 4-run 7th inning.
Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and
Dominik McVay (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point) hit two runners in each to put the Warhawks up 8-2.
UW-Oshkosh was able to score one in the bottom of the frame, but UW-Whitewater put together a three-run inning to extend their lead even more. The Titans added another two runs, but the Warhawk defense kept them in check to secure the 11-5 win.
Cade Hansen (New Braunfels, Texas/Smithson Valley) earned the win in the first game going 5.0 innings with only 2 earned runs.
In Game Two, the Titans were the team to start off hot, with 6 runs in the first two innings.
Dominik McVay (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point) was able to keep the Warhawks in pace with a three-RBI homer in the second.
Eli Frank (Bayport, Wis./Bay Port) &
Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) each had solo shots in the third to cut the Titan lead to just one at 6-5. UW-Oshkosh lined up a sacrifice bunt to score a run in the fourth inning, but that would be the final Titan run of the day with the Warhawks closing UWO out of the game.
Daryl Jackson closed the lead in the 5th with an RBI single, setting up
Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) to take the lead with a two-run jack in the 6th.
Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) gave the insurance in the 8th, with an oppo taco to put the Warhawks up 10-7.
Logan Eisenbarth (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) recorded the save, keeping the three-run lead for the Warhawks 18th conference win of the season.
The Warhawks have their penultimate WIAC series of the season up in Menomonie. UWW will face the Blue Devils on Saturday, April 26th & 27th in the four-game series.
