The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track team set some big marks at the Augustana Meet of Champions Rock Island, Ill. The event took place began Thursday, April 17th with multis and throws, and concluded on Friday, April 18th.
Warhawk Distance runners also traveled over to UW-La Crosse for the Phil Esten Challenge.Â
In the field events on Thursday night,
Tyler Jensen (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) set a new season best with a 48.96m toss in discus. The senior finished 3rd overall, and sits 22nd in the nation with that toss.
In the men's 100m dash, the Warhawks pushed three runners into the finals.
Caleb Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium),
Andy VanZile (New Berlin, Wis./West), and Sam Vargas all timed in the top 10. VanZile set a personal best in the qualifying round with a 10.71.
The finals were something to witness, as Beightol won gold, setting a new personal best that broke the facility record. Beightol crossed at 10.44, the 5th fastest time in NCAA DIII this season. Vargas also set a blazing PR with a 10.51, the 9th fastest time in NCAA DIII this year, finishing in 3rd place. VanZile also topped his PR from the qualifier, with a 10.68 to finish 7th overall.
Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) reached the 110m Hurdles finals, where he placed third overall. The senior timed in at a season best 14.82.
Vargas had his shot at gold in the men's 200m, reaching the top of the podium with a 21.26 finish. The freshman's time ranks 5th in all of Division III this season.
Drew Davey (Elkhorn, WI/) added another gold for the Warhawks in the 800m. Davey timed in at 1:54.40 for the first-place finish.
The Warhawk men had a 1-2 finish in the men's long jump.
Lincoln Begin (Greenfield, Wis./) and Conner Anderson took the top two spots with a 7.31m & 7.18m leap, respectively. Begin's jump ranked 4th in NCAA DIII this season, with Anderson's at 7th.Â
Max Wallace (West Allis, Wis./Hale) shined for the Warhawks in the triple jump, setting a new personal record on his way to 6th overall. The sophomore measured 14.05m on his final jump in the event.
The Men's 4x400 also set a new top mark, placing first overall themselves.

Jack Erickson (Belleville, Wis./), and
Kobe Chandler (Beloit, WI/Memorial) timed in at 3:16.05 for a season best time & 18th rank in NCAA DIII.
In La-Crosse, Christia Patzka topped the 3000m steeplechase. Patzka clocked in at 8:55.13 for first place.
Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) was in the top 10 of the men's 1500m run, timing in at 3:56.05 of the tight race. In the Men's 10k at La Crosse.
Tucker Johnson (Poynette, Wis./) and
Chris Allen (Downers Grove, Ill./North) finished 12th and 13th, respectively, in the 50-person event.Â
