The UW-Whitewater men's track and field program competed in a pair of meets this weekend. Two Warhawks competed in the decathlon in Oshkosh while a larger contingent was in action in Platteville.
Jackson Koppen (Sun Prairie, Wis./East) led UWW in Oshkosh with a fifth place finish in the decathlon. He accumulated a total of 5963.
Ben Bunton (Hartford, Wis./Hartford) recorded a total of 5620 to finish eighth in the event.
At Platteville,
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) paced the Division III runners competing in the 5,000 Friday night. Patzka was clocked in 14:02.10 to finish third behind a pair of Badgers. His time is ranked third in the nation this season.
Dan Anderson (Eau Claire, Wis./McDonell) added a seventh-place finish in the event with a time of 14:09.47 - a top 10 mark in Division III. A total of 274 runners took to the track in the race.
Sean Larsen (Waukesha, Wis./South) registered a sixth place finish in the lone other Friday event - the hammer throw. Larsen posted a mark of 53.62 meters (175-11).
In the first event of the day Saturday, the Warhawk men's 4x100 recorded the fastest time in DIII this season, nearly breaking the program record along the way.
Myles Anderson (Milwaukee, Wis./Lutheran) led off the squad that featured Sam Vargas and
Andy VanZile (New Berlin, Wis./West) running the second and third legs. Anchor
Caleb Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) crossed the line to stop the clock in 40.74 - just 0.11 from the UWW record.
A pair of Warhawks secured second and third in the fastest race of the day. Beightol was clocked in 10.62 to finish second in the 100 followed by Vargas' 10.63. Both times are top 10 marks in UWW history and top 30 times in Division III this season.
Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) claimed bronze in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.18.
In the 400,
Kobe Chandler (Beloit, WI/Memorial) grabbed silver with a time of 48.55.
Chris Kalies (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) was seventh in the event after crossing the line in 49.23. Chandler added a second top eight finish in the 200 with a clocking of 22.31 to claim sixth. VanZile was eighth in the event with a time of 22.38.
The 800 also saw a pair of Warhawks finish among the top eight.
Drew Davey (Elkhorn, WI/) led the way with a time of 1:54.17 to finish sixth while
Colin Lewandowski's (Elmhurst, Ill./York) 1:54.62 was good for eighth.
In the throws Saturday,
Tyler Jensen (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) finished seventh in the discus with a toss of 47.02 meters (154-3) and Cystrunk was sixth in the javelin with a mark of 50.61 meters (166-1).
Lincoln Begin (Greenfield, Wis./) won the long jump with a leap of 7.09 meters (23-3.25) - a top 15 mark nationally - as
Ethan Molzahn (Wauconda, IL/) finished eighth in the event (6.60m).
Max Wallace (West Allis, Wis./Hale) claimed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.88 meters (45-6.50).
