UW-W Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week (March 31st)

Baseball

Holland, Aaron

Position: Aaron Holland - Sophomore - Catcher - Wheaton, Ill./North

Aaron Holland led the Warhawks from the plate offensively and behind the plate defensively. The sophomore catcher batted .474 during the Warhawks’ opening conference series against UW-Eau Claire. Holland hit in seven Warhawks, going 9-for-19 from the plate with two home runs and a double. Defensively, opponents were only 1-for-4 in stolen base attempts with Holland behind the plate.

Hagen, Jack

Pitcher: Jack Hagen - Sophomore - Right-Handed Pitcher - San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente

Jack Hagen got the call on the mound for the second game against UW-Eau Claire in the season opening conference series. After a lead-off home run to start the game, Hagen pitched a shutout 7.0 innings. He notched six Ks and only five hits in his second win of the season.

Softball

Position: Claire Kohnle - Senior - Outfield - Tisch Mills, Wis./Kewaunee

Warhawk outfielder Claire Kohnle bolstered the UW-Whitewater offense in a pair of wins at Carroll last week. The senior went 1-3 in the first game before exploding in game two. Kohnle homered in her first at bat of the night cap and followed with a grand slam in her second plate appearance. For the game, Kohnle was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 5 RBI.

Pitcher: Rhiann Dick - Senior - Left-Handed Pitcher - Palatine, Ill./Palatine

UW-Whitewater's Rhiann Dick nearly had a perfect game in an 8-0, six-inning, win at Carroll last week. The senior was perfect through 5 2/3 before a flare to shallow left broke it up. Dick faced 20 batters in the contest, striking out seven while allowing just two hits in the complete game shutout.

Men's Tennis

Singles: Theo Billson - Sophomore - Lindfield, England/BHASVICTheo Billson competed at the No. 2 singles flight for the Warhawks during their spring break trip to California. In their last match of the trip against top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Billson faced off against 14th-ranked Warren Pham. Billson forced a third-set tiebreaker by winning the second set 7-5, but fell in the tiebreaker 10-3.

Doubles: Reuben Giorgio - Senior - Perth, Western Australia/Applecross & Theo Billson - Senior - Lindfield, England/BHASVIC

Reuben Giorgio & Theo Billson went 2-0 at #1 doubles for the Warhawks during their annual Spring Break Trip. The pair, ranked 7th nationally, opened the week with a 7-5 win against the doubles pair for Chapman. Later in the week, they faced the No. 23rd ranked doubles squad from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Giorgio and Billson won that match 6-4.

Track & Field

Men's Track: Gunner Schlender - Senior - 10,000 - Brillion, Wis./Brillion

Gunner Schlender registered the fastest time by a WIAC athlete in the 10,000 at the Raleigh Relays last week. The senior registered a time of 29:29.84 in the huge Division I meet - a mark that is third in Division III this season.

Frey, Brady

Men's Field: Logan Frey - Freshman - Throws - Brookfield, Wis./East

Logan Frey placed among the top eight in two events at the NCC First Chance Invitational last week. The freshman was the runner-up in the discus with a toss of 46.42 meters (152-3) - a mark that is tied for 20th in Division III this season. He claimed eighth in the shot put with a mark of 13.50 meters (44-3.5).

Huerta, Kelly

Women's Track: Kelly Huerta - Freshman - McHenry, Ill./McHenry

Kelly Huerta won the 100 and was the runner-up in the 200 at the NCC First Chance Invitational last week. The freshman crossed the line in 12.04 to win the 100 by nearly three-tenths. That mark is 16th in Division III and tops the WIAC this season. In the 200, she posted a time of 25.02.

Czarnecki, Kenni

Women's Field: Kenni Czarnecki - Senior - Throws - Muskego, Wis./Muskego

Kenni Czarnecki registered three top three finishes in the throws at the NCC First Chance Invitational last week. The senior won the shot put with a mark of 1309 meters (42-11.5). She captured a pair of third place finishes with distances of 41.44 meters (135-11) in the discus and 49.53 meters (162-6) in the hammer throw. All three are top 20 marks nationally this season -- her shot put ranks 9th, discus 20th and hammer 13th in Division III.
