Clermont, Fla. -- The UW-Whitewater softball team wrapped up their 2025 Florida trip with two more wins Saturday to remain unbeaten this season, 12-0. The Warhawks topped Hamline 4-1 before capping the trip with a 9-0, five inning win over Colby.
UWW blasted nine hits while
Josie Hammen (Combined Locks, Wis./Kimberly) and
Brooke Hock (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) tag-teamed for a gem in the circle against the Pipers. The Warhawks plated a pair in the first frame and that was all they would need. An
Emma Giese (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) double put runners on second and third and
Grace Wickman (Wausaukee, Wis./Peshtigo) capitalized with a single through the left side to score the first run of the game. With two outs,
Kaitlyn Weidemann (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) followed suit with her own single through the left side to make it 2-0.
UW-Whitewater doubled up in the fourth courtesy of hits from
Auburn Roberson (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) and
Liv Ybarra (Chicago, Ill./Taft). An error for Hamline allowed one Warhawk to score and put runners on the corners. During the next at bat,
Maggie Ward (Downers Grove, Ill./North) got into a pickle between first and second to allow Ybarra to score for the 4-0 advantage.
The Pipers plated a single run in the top of the fifth for the final.
Grace Wickman (Wausaukee, Wis./Peshtigo) was a perfect 3-3 in the batter's box to pace the Warhawk offense. In the circle, Hammen got the start and picked up her fourth win of the season. She allowed three hits while striking out three in five innings of work. Hock tallied her second save of 2025 with two innings of hitless relief work.
In the second game of the day, nearly the entire Warhawk roster saw the diamond. It was a fitting way to end a phenomenal Florida trip as UWW scored early and often en route to the run-rule victory. UW-Whitewater registered runs in each of the first four frames of the game.
The Warhawks spread the wealth with eight batters registering a hit -
JJ Jakosalem (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) had two in the game. UWW drew six walks and tallied five stolen bases.
In the circle,
Madi DeBennette (Wadsworth, Ill./Carmel Catholic) picked up the win allowing just two hits in three innings of work.
Karman Rowe (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) and
Ava Kostecki (Indian Head Park, Ill./Lyons Township) closed out the game.
Next Up: UWW will head to Waukesha for a doubleheader at Carroll March 28.
