Warhawk Softball Off to 10-0 Start for Second Season in a Row

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team defeated Endicott, 12-7, and Wellesley, 4-1, to improve to a 10-0 start for the second year in a row.

The Warhawks outlasted Endicott in a high-scoring game to start off the day. UWW got off to a hot start, scoring four runs int he top of the first despite having two outs.

Endicott managed tie it up at five a piece in the second inning, but were unable to stop the Warhawk rallies, with UWW scoring another four runs while having two outs in the top of the fourth.

The Gulls started to rally at the end, but the Warhawk defense only allowed two more runs from Endicott, finalizing the 12-7 game. Four different Warhawks had two RBIs in the contest.

The second game of the day against Wellesley was a little lower scoring, but the Warhawks had a late rally in bottom of the fifth to pull ahead of the Blue.

Wellesley scored the first run of the game in the top of the first on a double-steal play. The Warhawk were unable to start any of their rallies, being held to just three hits in the first three innings.

UWW kept Wellesley off the base path as well, keeping the game within one run. Rhiann Dick (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) tossed three straight hitless innings after the Blue's opening run.

The defense paid off, as Dani Peshia (Newark, Ill./Newark Community) had a double in the bottom of the fourth.

Bree Loushine (Madison, Wis./Monona Grove) came into pinch run for Peshia, and her speed was useful. Roberson singled up the middle, allowing Loushine to score the first Warhawk run and tie up the game.

Dick recorded another hitless inning, and the Warhawk offense followed suit in the bottom of the fifth. Kiarra Kostroski (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) started the rally with a solo home run. Grace Wickman (Wausaukee, Wis./Peshtigo) added an RBI double, and score herself from a sacrifice fly from Brooke Mangler (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township).

Karman Rowe (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) finished the game on the mound, only allowing one hit to secure the win for the Warhawks and record the save.

The Warhawks wrap up THE Spring Game tomorrow morning with a double header against Hamline and Colby College at 10:15 AM ET.
