UW-W Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week (March 17th)

Baseball

Cootway, Adam

Position: Adam Cootway – SR – DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran
 

Adam Cootway led the Warhawks to a 5-0 week in the Studer’s Blue Wahoo Challenge in Pensacola, Florida. Cootway split time at designated hitter and right field, batting a .474 over 19 at bats. The senior recorded three home runs and eight RBIs during the week.

 

Pitching: Max Huseboe – SR – Ripon, Wis./Ripon
 

Max Huseboe was the go-to arm for the Warhawks down in Pensacola at the Studer’s Blue Wahoo Challenge. Huseboe tossed 9.0 innings in four appearances. The senior only allowed one run during his time on the mound, recording 13 strikeouts. On the week, Huseboe picked up a save against Edgewood and was credited the win against LeTourneau.  
 

Softball

Position: Bella Eggert - JR - OF - Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North

Bella Eggert led the Warhawks to a pair of wins to open the season in Clermont last week. In a 9-1 (5 inn.) win over Coe, the junior was a perfect 2-2 at the plate with three runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Eggert was 1-3 with a walk and a run scored in UWW's 5-4 (9 inn.) win over Simpson in the second game of the day. On a windy day, she was solid in the outfield with no errors. For the week, Eggert was 3-5 with four runs scored and two walks drawn.  

Pitcher: Josie Hammen - SO - RHP - Combined Locks, Wis./Kimberly

Josie Hammen picked up her first win of the season in a 5-4 (9 inn.) win over Simpson Sunday. The sophomore entered in a jam, with one out and two runners on in a tie game in the bottom of the seventh. She struck out the first batter and forced a ground out to get out of the inning. Hammen sat the Storm down in order in the eighth and ninth to secure the win. In the final 2.2 innings of work, Hammen did not allow a single base runner while striking out three.

Men's Tennis

Singles: Tyler Nelson – JR – Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee


Tyler Nelson helped complete the Warhawk sweep over Roosevelt University on Saturday. After trailing two-games to one, the junior won three straight to get the momentum back on his side and win the first set 6-4. Nelson jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set, eventually securing the match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
 

Doubles:  Giovanni Vitali – JR – Galgagnano, Italy/San Francesco & Drew Van Fossen – SR – Germantown, Wis./Germantown


Giovanni Vitali and Drew Van Fossen helped the Warhawks get off to a hot start against Roosevelt University in their dual on Saturday. The pair finished their match in only 20-minutes, winning the No. 3 singles flight, 6-1.
