Rochester, NY -- The Warhawk Men's and Women's Track & Field opened competition in the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships. UWW garnered four First Team All-American honors and four Second Team All-American honors.
Senior pole vaulter
Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) picked up her sixth All-America honor after finishing sixth with a height of 3.92 meters (12-10.25).
Caleb Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) narrowly missed the finals of the 60-meter dash. The sophomore was clocked in 6.78 to cross the line ninth, just .01 away from finals qualification.
Dakota Mitchell (Sun Prairie, Wis./West) represented the Warhawks in the prelims of the women's 60. She crossed the line in 7.69 to finish 17th.
Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) competed in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles. The senior was clocked in 8.19 to finish 16th.
Kobe Chandler (Beloit, WI/Memorial) placed 15th overall in the men's 400-meter. The junior timed in at 49.18.
In the highly-anticipated men's 5,000 meter run,
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) and
Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) both placed on the podium. Patzka was in the lead pack for the majority of the race. The senior distance runner finished third overall with a time of 14:10.32. Schlender moved up four places in the last 400 meters to place sixth over with a time of 14:18.23, securing his sixth First Team All-American Award.
On the Women's side in the 5,000 meter, the Warhawks were represented by
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) finished 19th overall with a time of 17:31.67.
Back to the field events,
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) tossed a 17.16m (56-3.75) finishing 14th overall. In the Men's Long Jump,
Lincoln Begin (Greenfield, Wis./) earned his first All-American nod finishing seventh overall in the event. The freshman saved his best for last, leaping distance 7.24m (23-9.00) on his sixth and final jump.
The NCAA Division III Championship will continue tomorrow in Rochester, NY.
