Women's Hoops defeat UWRF by 20 on the road

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team defeated UW-River Falls 66-46 to improve to 7-5 in conference play. 

The first quarter was a defensive battle, as both teams looked to find their rhythm offensively. The Warhawks took the slight lead 12-9 thanks to a jumper by Mia Gillis (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) in the closing minute of the frame.

The Warhawks started to extend their lead in the second, going up by six early in the quarter. UW-River Falls started to cut down on the lead, but the Warhawks put together an 8-0 run late. Maggie Traustch and Bri McCurdy (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) each connected on threes during the run. The Warhawks enter halftime up by nine, 28-19.


The Warhawks opened up the half with another 8-0 run, quickly extending their lead to 17. UWRF was unable to find an answer, as the Warhawks outscored them 22-10 in the third frame.With a comfortable lead heading into the fourth, the Warhawks kept the pace to keep the Falcons out of the game. 

Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) led the Warhawks with a 22-point outing. Carollo added nine rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists in only 26 minutes of play.

Maggie Trautsch (Sun Prairie, Wis./DeForest) added in 15 points, pulling down 8 rebounds. Mia Gillis (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) also hit double-digits, adding 10 points and four rebounds.

The Warhawks enter their final week of play in the regular season. On Wednesday, February 19th, UWW women head to UW-Platteville. The Warhawks return home on Saturday, February 22nd for their final regular season game against UW-Eau Claire. The Saturday game also marks Senior night for the program.
