The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team struggled offensively against Coe College to wrap up their non-conference schedule. The Kohawks put together a hot first half, shooting over 60% from the floor and from behind the arc. A late push in the second half helped cut the lead, but the Warhawk ran out of time in their non-conference finale.
The game started even, with the Warhawks holding a small 18-17 advantage with just 8-minutes left in the half. But Coe College started to hit their shots and start to pull away from UWW.
In the final few minutes of the half, the Warhawks went cold from the field, only making one more shot from the floor in the final 7-minutes of the half. The Wahawks managed 10 points from the line, but the free throws weren't enough to keep up with the Kohawks for a 29-12 run.
The Warhawks went into the break with a 54-35 deficit. Coe made 66.7% (18-for-27) of their shots in the first half with 63.6% (7-for-11) coming from deep. The Warhawks were at just 37.5% (9-for-24) from the floor with only two threes in seven attempts.
To start the second half, Coe went on a 6-0 run coming out of halftime quickly put the Warhawks down by 25.
The Warhawks bench kept UWW in the game, slowly chipping down the lead of the Kohawks.
JR Lukenbill (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) had an emphatic fast break dunk to cut the lead to just 14 with under 5-minutes to play.
The gaining Warhawk momentum cause Coe to burn their last two timeouts. Coe was able to get on the right page, closing the Warhawks chance for a comeback.
Tyshawn Teague-Johnson (Beloit, Wis./Turner) led the Warhawks with 13 points and 5 rebounds in a team-high 23 minutes.
Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) added 11 points, nine of which came from the charity stripe.
Jake Quast (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) added nine points with a team-high 7 rebounds.
Brock Marino (Lake Villa, Ill./Lakes Community) had 9 points and four rebounds in 13 minutes of action.
The Warhawks will return to Kachel Gym to begin their conference season against UW-Oshkosh on January 3rd. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 PM.
