Warhawks Cruise to Big Win in Belton

Belton, Texas -- The No. 10 UW-Whitewater women's basketball team kicked off their trip to Belton with a 66-37 win over host Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The atmosphere was loud despite the midweek, midday contest as UMHB was hosting Education Day that saw 1,600 elementary children from the Belton School District visit the arena for the game. The large home crowd did not deter the Warhawks - the game was all UWW, all the way.

UW-Whitewater's full court press caused all sorts of issues for the UMHB ball handlers. Just four minutes into the game, the Warhawks had jumped out to a 9-2 lead bolstered by back-to-back fastbreak buckets off of steals. By the end of the first, UWW had doubled up the Cru taking an 18-9 lead into the second quarter.

The Warhawks continued to grow their lead with Caden Krohn's (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) basket in the paint in the final seconds sending UWW into the locker room with a 17-point, 32-15 advantage.

On the other side of the break, Krohn and Bri McCurdy (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) combined for 13 of the team's 20 third-quarter points as UW-Whitewater's lead swelled to 25 heading into the final period. The Warhawks cruised the rest of the way for the 66-37 final.

Krohn tallied a career-high 20 points on 9-11 from the floor and a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc. She added a pair of blocks on the defensive end. McCurdy joined Krohn in double digits with 15 adding four steals and three assists. Renee Rittmeyer (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) had a solid outing shooting 50% with seven points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals.

The Warhawks will take on East Texas Baptist in a top-15 matchup hosted by UMHB Thursday at 12 PM.
