Warhawk Women Top Prairie Fire on the Road

Galesburg, Ill. -- The UW-Whitewater women's basketball team came back to defeat Knox College 77-66 Saturday afternoon.

After a two week break in competition, it took the Warhawks a bit to get going Saturday. Trailing 35-37 at halftime, UWW regrouped and came out of the intermission determined.

UW-Whitewater's offense started to roll and the Warhawks used the charity stripe to their advantage (10-11 in the third quarter) en route to outscoring the Prairie Fire 24-15 in the third. By the end of the third, the Warhawks had opened up a seven-point lead and they never looked back. Renee Rittmeyer (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) and Logan Lowry (Appleton, Wis./East) led UWW in the third quarter comeback with seven points each.

The Warhawks took full advantage of Knox miscues outscoring the Prairie Fire 26-6 in points off turnovers in the game. Eight UW-Whitewater players entered the scoring column with the Warhawks' tallying 45 points off the bench compared to just six for Knox. The free throw line was pivotal in the contest as UWW hit 23-30 while the home squad was just 10-19 from the charity stripe.

Rittmeyer shared game-high honors with 20 points. She was a single rebound shy of a double-double while adding a pair of assists and four steals. Caden Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) (13), Camryn Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) (12) and Lowry (12) all joined Rittmeyer in double digits.

UW-Whitewater will head to warmer weather next week. The Warhawks are slated to face Mary Hardin-Baylor and East Texas Baptist in a tournament in Belton, Texas Wednesday and Thursday.
