Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late Surge from Calvin Hands Women's Hoops First Loss of Season

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Women's Basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on the road in Michigan to Calvin University. The Knights closed the game on a 17-4 run to pull away late in Grand Rapids.

The Warhawks struggled to get the game going offensively, shooting just 15% (3-for-20) from the floor to start the contest. The Knights took a 6-point point lead after the first frame with a 50% (7-for-14) quarter to start the game.

Calvin began the second quarter on a small run, quickly going up by 10 at 21-11.  The Warhawks started getting their shots to fall, and closed out the lead to maintain the six-point margin heading into the halftime break.

Coming out of the break, the Warhawks turned into the more dominant team, chipping away at the lead. UWW was unable to change the lead on the board, but got within one point of the Knights a few times, setting up an exciting fourth quarter.

In the final quarter, the Warhawks had their best shooting stretch, going 6-for-8 to start the quarter. The small run put the Warhawks up by five points at 49-44 with just under 6-minutes to go.

The Knights answered back with their own stretch, including two three pointers that pushed the lead back up to 6-points. The Warhawks tried to answer back, but couldn't get a late shot to fall to get them back in the game.

Despite the loss, the Warhawks dominated the glass, out-rebounding Calvin 46-32 with 23 offensive rebounds.

The Warhawks had two in double-figure scoring with Bri McCurdy (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) leading UWW with 11 points, followed by Caden Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) who finished with 10 points.

Renee Rittmeyer (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) had an all-around line of 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. Logan Lowry (Appleton, Wis./East) matched Rittmeyer's 9 points. Brook Stenklyft led the Warhawks on the glass with 10 rebounds and added 7 points.

Women's Hoops will stay on the road for the rest of the 2025 portion of their season, heading to Knox College on Saturday, December 10th to take on the Prairie Fire. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 PM in Galesburg, Illinois.
