The 8th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team faced-off against Principia College in the second half of a Tuesday night double-header.
The Warhawks came out of the gates with a 10-0 run, and didn't look back from there. After the first quarter, the Warhawks were up 28-9, holding Principia to just four field goals.
Heading into the second quarter, the Warhawks kept extending their lead, outscoring the Panthers 26-9 in the second period. Heading to the locker room, the Warhawks held a 54-18 advantage.
Coming out of the break, Principia switched to a zone defense, and had some success slowing the Warhawk offense. Principia began the quarter on a 13-9 run, but the Warhawk figured out the solution to the zone. UWW ended the half on a 6-0 run to regain the advantage in the quarter.
The Panthers picked-up in the fourth quarter, out-scoring the Warhawks 16-12 after their best shooting quarter with 50% from the floor.
UWW took home the win at 81-49. Four Warhawks reached double-digit scoring in the balanced offensive night.
Bri McCurdy (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) led all scorers with 13 points in 20 minutes of play.
Mia Gillis (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic),
Lainee Burks (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster), Maddie Anderson all finished with 10 points.
Renee Rittmeyer (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) and
Logan Lowry (Appleton, Wis./East) each had 8 rebounds to led the Warhawks. As a team, UW-Whitewater outrebounded the Panthers 51-26. Lowry added 9 points of her own with Rittmeyer at 7.
The Warhawks will head over to Michigan for their next match-up. UWW will play Calvin University in Grand Rapids on Saturday, November 29th at 2 PM ET.
