The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team heads to UW-Stevens Point for a meeting with the Pointers this Saturday. Kickoff at Community Stadium at Goerke Park is set for 1 PM.
RANKINGS
The Warhawks are ranked 10th in the latest D3football.com poll and are listed 12th according to the American Football Coaches Association. The Pointers are receiving votes in the latest AFCA poll.
SERIES
The series between UWW and UWSP dates back to 1895 -- tied for the longest for the Warhawks against another WIAC institution. UW-Whitewater captured the first win in the series (10-0) and have won the last 11 meetings. UW-Stevens Point's longest win streak was a three-game span from 2002-2004. Last season's 66-0 shutout for UW-Whitewater was the second-largest margin in the series -- bested only by the 2022 score of 79-10.
LAST TIME OUT - UWW
UW-Whitewater dropped a heartbreaker to UW-La Crosse in a top ten battle at Perkins Stadium last week. Despite jumping out to a 17-0 lead in the first half, the Warhawks ended up falling 23-20 in double overtime.
The Warhawks dominated time of possession by nearly 10 minutes, but lost the turnover battle in the contest. UWW registered 213 yards of total offense including 134 rushing yards.
Defensively,
Efrein Ramirez (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) and
Ethan Gallagher (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) each posted double figure tackles, combining for 26 tackles in the game.
LAST TIME OUT - UWSP
The Pointers were shutout at UW-Platteville 52-0 last week. UW-Stevens Point recorded just 10 first downs and 128 yards of total offense in the loss.
Three pointers registered at least one passing attempt in the contest. Defensively, Jack Luedtke led UWSP with 11 tackles.
