Box Score The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team was unable to overcome two late goals by Loras, falling to the Duhawks for the first time since 2017.
The Warhawks came out of the gates hungry for their first goal. It didn't take long to find it, with
Aidan Glancey (Milwaukee, Wis./Whitnall) breaking open the game in the 13th minute.
Tyler Chrisman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township) slightly redirected a cross from
Cooper Re (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly), causing the goalie to misstep his line. Glancey finished off the play to put the Warhawks up 1-0 early on.
Loras was able to answer back shortly after, scoring their first goal to tie the game at one a-piece. The Duhawks kept up the pressure, putting four more shots on goal, but were unable to find a second goal.
After the break, the Warhawks kept in control of the offense, pressuring and testing the defense. It finally paid off with Mitchel Tackney sneaking the ball past the goalie and off the post to put the Warhawks up in the 56th minute.
However, Loras wasn't out of the fight yet, finding an equalizer with less than 20 minutes on the clock with a long throw-in resulting in a header.Â
A few minutes later, the Duhawks were able to break the tie with a breakaway solo goal from a Loras striker. The Warhawks were left scrambling with just 10 minutes on the clock, unable to find their own equalizer.
The Hawk Cup transferred hands for the first time since 2018, with Loras taking the cup back for the first time since the Warhawk victory in 2018.
UW-Whitewater will begin conference play on Saturday, October 4th, taking on UW-Stevens Point in the second half of a doubleheader with the women's program.Â
