Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warhawks Unable to Keep Pace with No. 16 Pointers

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with 16th-ranked UW-Stevens Point. The Warhawks fell to the Pointers 86-67 on Wednesday evening.

The Warhawks scored the first basket off the tip, with Isaac Verges (Franklin, Wis.) taking the jump ball to the rim to give UW-Whitewater the first basket.

UW-Stevens Point responded back with a three pointer, as the lead flipped in the first few minutes of the game. But the Pointers remained hot, hitting two more jumpers to put them up 8-4.

The Warhawks tied it up at 12 a-piece before UWSP went on a 13-4 run, holding the Warhawks to just two made field goals in the next 8-minutes.

The UWSP led kept growing, hitting a high of 13 right before the break, 44-31.

In the second half, the Warhawks looked to string together some runs, cutting the lead down, but UW-Stevens Point kept answering, hitting a 20-point margin midway through the half.

The Warhawks had one last run, an 11-0 three-minute stretch to cut the lead down to single digits, but it was quickly negated by a 12-0 Pointer run. The lead would remain over 15 for the rest of the way, with UWSP coming away with the 86-67 win.

Luke Bara (Waukesha, Wis./Muskego) led UWW in scoring with 15 points, shooting 5-for-12 from the field, including 2-for-5 from beyond the arc.

Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./) and Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./) both contributed 12 points each to the team's effort, with Madson showing perfect accuracy by hitting 4-of-4 field goals and 4-4 from the free throw line.

Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) rounded out double-digit scorers with 11 points.

Joey Berezowitz (Burlington, Wis./) was a defensive standout with a team-high three steals, while Richie Warren (Racine, Wis./Park) added two steals and led the team in rebounds with five.

UWW will head to UW-Stout for their first conference road game of the season. The Warhawks and Blue Devils face off on Saturday, January 11th at 3 PM in Menomonie.
