The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with 16th-ranked UW-Stevens Point. The Warhawks fell to the Pointers 86-67 on Wednesday evening.
The Warhawks scored the first basket off the tip, with
Isaac Verges (Franklin, Wis.) taking the jump ball to the rim to give UW-Whitewater the first basket.
UW-Stevens Point responded back with a three pointer, as the lead flipped in the first few minutes of the game. But the Pointers remained hot, hitting two more jumpers to put them up 8-4.Â
The Warhawks tied it up at 12 a-piece before UWSP went on a 13-4 run, holding the Warhawks to just two made field goals in the next 8-minutes.Â
The UWSP led kept growing, hitting a high of 13 right before the break, 44-31.Â
In the second half, the Warhawks looked to string together some runs, cutting the lead down, but UW-Stevens Point kept answering, hitting a 20-point margin midway through the half.Â
The Warhawks had one last run, an 11-0 three-minute stretch to cut the lead down to single digits, but it was quickly negated by a 12-0 Pointer run. The lead would remain over 15 for the rest of the way, with UWSP coming away with the 86-67 win.Â
Luke Bara (Waukesha, Wis./Muskego) led UWW in scoring with 15 points, shooting 5-for-12 from the field, including 2-for-5 from beyond the arc.Â
