The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team took the lead late against UW-Stout, but the Blue Devils had the last say with a last-second lay-up to win by one, 62-61. The Warhawks fall to 1-2 in conference play while Stout remains undefeated through the first three games.
The first half was a defensive slug fast, as neither team could find good looks on the basket. The Warhawks managed to take an early lead, scoring the first five points of the game, but a 7-0 Stout run put the Blue Devils up 13-12 at the 10-minute mark of the first half.
The lead flipped back and forth for a bit before another 8-0 Stout run put them up by six points heading into the under 4-media timeout. UW-Whitewater tied the game up, but two late free throws for the Blue Devils made the game 31-29 heading into the break.
The second half was a game of runs, with neither team in control of the pace for very long. There was a total of nine lead changes in the second half alone.Â
At the two minute mark, Stout took the lead 60-59 with a post move lay-up.
Isaac Verges (Franklin, Wis.) answered back, giving the lead back to the Warhawks with 90 seconds on the clock.Â
Both teams closed played patient on the offensive end, looking for the final dagger. After a costly turnover in the backcourt for the Warhawks, Stout found a mismatch in the post, taking the lead back with 8-seconds to go.Â
The Warhawks were unable to find a clean look, falling in the final seconds to the Blue Devils.

Brock Marino (Lake Villa, Ill./Lakes Community) led the Warhawks with a team-high 14 points.
Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./) added in 13 points of his own, including 6 rebounds.
Luke Bara (Waukesha, Wis./Muskego) chipped in 11 points, rounded out the double-digit scorers.Â
The Warhawks stay on the road, heading to Oshkosh for their next conference game. UWW faces off against the Titans on Wednesday, January 15th at 7 pm.Â
