The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team registered a 192.775-189.625 win at Winona State Friday evening. The Warhawks' team total is the sixth-highest in program history bolstered by a UWW record on the vault.
UW-Whitewater opened the meet on the uneven bars.
Paige Magel (Cary, Ill./Prairie Ridge) shared gold in the event with a routine scoring 9.65.
Hayden Gough (Dallas, Texas/Dallas International School) was fourth with a 9.6 followed by
Carley Scott's (Oak Grove, Mo./Grain Valley) 9.575 in fifth.
Ava Pesch (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) and
Ariana Goodwin (Elgin, Ill./The Einstein Academy) rounded out the Warhawks' scoring five with a 9.5 and 9.475 respectively.
UWW was phenomenal in the second rotation putting up the highest team total on the vault in program history. The Warhawks' scoring five combined for a team total of 48.550 to break the record that had stood for two seasons.
Brianna Balian (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) led the way with a 9.75 - the top score in the event Friday.
Elaine Copeland (Arlington, Texas/University Prep) and Carley Moore tied for second with matching vaults scoring 9.725. Pesch and
Chloe Hammond (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) each scored a 9.675 to tie for fifth.
Moore and
Kelsey Kollhoff (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) paced UW-Whitewater on the floor. The duo shared silver, each putting together routines scoring 9.75.
Zoe Jenks-Recker (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) added a 9.625 followed by Hammond's 9.6 and
Paige Magel's (Cary, Ill./Prairie Ridge) 9.575.
The Warhawks wrapped up the meet with the third-highest team beam score in program history - 48.450. Hammond recorded the highest score on any event Friday evening with a 9.8 to secure golf on the balance beam. That mark ties for eighth all-time in UWW history.
Kristen Swiebocki (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) claimed second with a 9.75. Magel's 9.7 tied for third while
Sofia Spadafora (Windsor, Ontario, Canada/Saint Thomas of Villanova) and Kollhoff shared sixth with 9.6's.
UW-Whitewater will head back to Minnesota for their next meet at Gustavus Adolphus on February 8.
