The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams welcomed in eight schools for their annual Karl Schlender Invitational. The Warhawk men finished 2nd overall with a team total of 145 points, while the women placed first overall with 171.5, over DII Northern Michigan an conference-rival UW-Oshkosh.
The annual Karl Schlender was full of highlights Saturday.
Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) took over the top of the Division III leaderboard in the pole vault while four Warhawks tallied top 10 marks in the UWW records books to go along with a number of personal bests and event wins.
Holland cleared a height of 4.02 meters (13-2.25) to take sole possession of the top of the NCAA Division III indoor performance list in the pole vault. Teammates
Ella Maher (Rockford, Ill./Winnebago), Carleeen Snow and
Malerie Morey (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) all added top eight finishes in the event. Holland added a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.45 meters (17-10.75).
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) registered the best throw of her collegiate career in the weight throw. Her heave of 18.11 meters (59-5) is third in program history and was good for second at the meet.
Sam Burge (Mukwonago, Wis./) improved her 60 hurdles time by a hundredth of a second Saturday. Her clocking of 9.28 is third in program history and was third at the Karl Schlender.
Lena Becker (Toulon, Ill./Stark County) was fourth and
Morgan Amend (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) finished seventh in the event.
Kelly Huerta (McHenry, Ill./) entered the Warhawks' all-time top 10 in the 200. Her personal best time of 25.97 won the event and ties for ninth in program history. Huerta led a five-Warhawk contingent to finish among the top eight at the meet including
Cici Stennett (Barrington, Ill./),
Danielle Pouska (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs),
Angela Dale (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) and
Kiersten Dellar (Waukesha, Wis./Watertown Lutheran Prep) who swept fourth through seventh. On the men's side,
Nick McFadden's (Waukesha, Wis./Pewaukee) clocking of 22.51 was good for second and ties for tenth in the UWW record book. Teammates
Jack Erickson (Belleville, Wis./),
Ben Bojar (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee),
Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest),
Lincoln Begin (Greenfield, Wis./) and
Colton Krause (Jefferson, Wis./) all finished among the top eight in the event.
UW-Whitewater swept the top three in the mile.
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) was the first to cross the line registering a time of 4:13.63 followed by
Gunner Schlender's (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) 4:14.02 and
Dan Anderson's (Eau Claire, Wis./McDonell) 4:17.97.
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) claimed the women's mile with a time of 5:08.62. Snow and
Payton Scoggin (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trails) added top eight finishes in the event.
Drew Davey (Elkhorn, WI/) led a five-Warhawk contingent to finish among the top eight in the 600 including
Colin Lewandowski (Elmhurst, Ill./York),
Landen Bratt (Waukesha, Wis./West),
Felipe Wickler (Batavia, Ill./) and
Josh Anhalt (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran). Davey was clocked in 1:24.37 for second with Lewandowski just four-tenths back in the third - both personal bests.
Four Warhawk women secured the top four spots in the high jump.
Zoe Roder (Waukesha, Wis./South) registered a personal best height of 1.54 meters (5-0.5) to win the event by jumps.
Abby Burr (Lancaster, Wis./) and
Brynn Fuerstenberg (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) matched that height to tie for second with Pouska also clearing the 1.54 meter mark to claim fourth.
Begin notched a height of 6.81 meters (22-4.25) to finish fourth in the men's high jump. In the men's triple jump,
Connor Anderson (Waukesha, Wis./North) and
Max Wallace (West Allis, Wis./Hale) finished third and fourth with distances of 13.41 meters (44-0) and 13.39 meters (43-11.25) respectively.
Emily Mohs' (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) leap of 10.52 meters (34-6.25) in the women's competition inks a new personal best and was good for third.
Lexie Weier (Mineral Point, WI/) added a sixth-place finish in the event.
Sean Larsen (Waukesha, Wis./South) posted a career best heave in the weight throw Saturday. His distance of 17.02 meters (55-10.25) was good for second while
Tyler Jensen (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) claimed seventh. The Czarnecki sisters both boasted PRs in the women's shot put.
Ryleigh Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) went a foot over her previous personal best with a toss of 11.51 meters (37-9.25). Kenni Czarnacki also added another foot to her PR with a toss of 12.47 meters (40-11.00) to place 4th in the event.
In the fastest event of the day, the 60, six Warhawk women finished among the top eight. Stennett finished second with a clocking of 7.82 followed by Huerta's 7.85 for third.
Zari Dorris (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), Dale,
Sydney Griffin (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) and
Faith Gaston (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) rounded out the contingent.
Caleb Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) paced the Warhawk men in the event with a fifth-place time of 6.86.
Andy VanZile (New Berlin, Wis./West) finished seventh in the event.
The Warhawks registered the top two mixed 4x400 meter relay times. The men's distance medley relay squads swept the top three stops while the women's combinations claimed second through fourth places.
