The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's volleyball team swept No. 7 La Verne 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-17) - handing the Leopards their first loss of the season - in the first match of the Bear Invite in St. Louis, Missouri. The Warhawks are 11-1 on the season.
The Warhawk offense was efficient hitting .273 in the match while the defense held La Verne to an attack percentage of .120. UWW held a hefty advantage offensively with 44 kills compared to just 32 for the Leopards.
UW-Whitewater's tandem of
Alayna Jansky (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and
Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) on the outside combined for 22 kills in the contest led by Jansky's 12.
Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) was stellar in the middle with 8 kills in 14 attempts without committing an attack error.
Chloe Werner (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) was also efficient on the right side, hitting .455 with six kills.
Weinfurt added three aces, two blocks and 11 digs.
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) tallied 30 assists and added three assist blocks. Libero
Jaedynn Evans (Kalona, Iowa/Iowa City Regina) led UWW with 13 digs.
The Warhawks will wrap up play in WashU's Bear Invite against No. 15 Gustavus Adolphus Saturday at 10:30.
