UW-W Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week (Sept 16th)

Football

o Offense: Brian Stanton – So. – Running Back – Plainfield, Ill./South

Brian Stanton led the Warhawk ground game in a 24-14 win over Division II Roosevelt University Saturday. The sophomore averaged 6.2 yards per carry. He netted 87 yards on 14 attempts in the contest.

Defense: Nehemiah Lomax – Senior – Defensive Line – Park Forest, Ill./Crete-Monee

§ Nehemiah Lomax registered four tackles including a sack in UW-Whitewater’s 24-14 win over Division II Roosevelt University Saturday. Lomax’s first tackle of the game came on a third-and-long leading to a Laker punt. In the third quarter, he registered a tackle and a sack on back-to-back plays on a Roosevelt drive that ended with another punt.

Special Teams: Tyler Vasey – Sophomore – Wide Receiver/Returner – Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge

Tyler Vasey returned a kick for a 98-yard touchdown and was the Warhawks’ leading receiver in UW-Whitewater’s 24-14 win over Division II Roosevelt Saturday. In the third quarter, Vasey hauled in the Laker kickoff at the two-yard line and went the distance for a 98-yard kick return touchdown. The sophomore tied the program record for kicks returned for touchdowns with two in his career. Vasey added a pair of receptions for a team-high 51 yards.

Women's Golf

Ellie Johnson – Senior – Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg

Ellie Johnson tied for fifth in a field of 124 golfers at the IWU Fall Classic that featured nine squads from teams ranked or receiving votes in the latest WGCA Division III poll. Johnson shot one under par in the first round, carding a 71 – a mark that is tied for second-best in program history. She registered a 75 on Sunday to wrap up the tournament two over par (146).

Men's Soccer

Offense: Tucker Jahns – Sr. – Forward – Elburn, Ill./Kaneland

Tucker Jahns put two shots on goal for the Warhawks against a Macalester squad that is receiving votes in the latest national poll. Jahns came off the bench to help give UW-Whitewater a spark offensively. Jahns was active for 51 minutes as the Warhawks’ striker on the pitch in the 1-0 loss.

Defense: Zack Kristy – Jr. – Defender – Burr Ridge, Ill./Lyons Township

Zack Kristy was a steady option for the Warhawk defense over the weekend. On the road against Macalester (receiving votes in the national poll) and Augsburg, Kristy played the entire 180 minutes – he was the only Warhawk player to go the distance both contests.

Women's Soccer

Offense: Emily Thill – Senior – Midfielder – West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis

Emily Thill was a key part of the Warhawks’ offensive outburst against St. Scholastica Sunday. Thill was credited with two assists in the 4-0 win – both on corner kicks taken by the senior midfielder.

Women's Tennis

Singles: Cassie Lee – Senior – Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian

Cassie Lee earned the victory in the top singles flight in a conference win over UW-Eau Claire Saturday. Lee battled back after dropping the first set to force a tiebreak. After trailing 2-6 in the tiebreak, Lee stormed back to take the match with a 10-7 tiebreaker

Doubles: Cassie Lee – Senior – Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian & Gracie Ha – Senior – Palatine, Ill./Fremd

Cassie Lee and Gracie Ha cruised to a win at No. 1 doubles against UW-Eau Claire Saturday. The Warhawks defeated the Blugold duo 8-2 in the top doubles flight.

Volleyball

Alayna Jansky

Offense: Alayna Jansky – Gr. – Outside Hitter – Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago

Alayna Jansky averaged 5.22 kills per set to lead UW-Whitewater to a 3-0 record including another win over a ranked opponent last week. The powerful outside opened the week with a 12-kill performance against Illinois Wesleyan. Against #16 Millikin, Jansky hammered down a season-high 24 kills. She wrapped up the week with 11 kills in 15 attempts without a single attack error in two sets against Concordia Wisconsin. For the week, Jansky tallied 47 kills with an attack percentage of .383. She added three aces, four blocks and 20 digs in nine sets played.

Hannah Proctor

Defense: Hannah Proctor – Gr. – Middle Hitter – Durand, Ill./Durand

Hannah Proctor led the Warhawks defensively to a 3-0 week on the court including another win against a ranked opponent last week. Proctor tallied 13 blocks including a 7-block match against Concordia Wisconsin to wrap up the week. In nine sets played, Proctor was efficient offensively as well with 8 kills in 19 attempts with just one attack error – a hit percentage of .368. For the week, Proctor averaged 1.44 blocks per set.
