Warhawks Sweep IWU to Improve to 8-0

The No. 4 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's volleyball team swept Illinois Wesleyan 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-14) in Russell Arena Wednesday night.

Set one was a back-and-forth affair until UW-Whitewater went on a five-point run to take a 21-17 lead. The run featured a pair of kills from right side Chloe Werner (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union), one from each of the Warhawks' outsides Alayna Jansky (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) and an ace from Jansky.

The Titans whittled away at the gap to knot the set 24-24. Weinfurt picked up the kill with the help of a net violation on the next point and Jansky hammered down the next set to seal the win.

UWW built a 21-15 lead in the second set when, once again, IWU battled back. Five straight points had the Titans within one when Werner pounded down a kill to stop the momentum. A pair of Illinois Wesleyan attack errors gave the Warhawks set point, 24-20. IWU made another late push to tie the set 24-24 but the run ended with back-to-back miscues as UW-Whitewater took set two, 26-24.

The Warhawks jumped out to a 6-2 lead and never looked back in set three. UWW ended the match with four consecutive points. A Jansky kill sparked the burst followed by an IWU error. Hannah Proctor (Durand, Ill./Durand) and Weinfurt teamed up for a block to force match point and another error sealed the victory.

Jansky led UW-Whitewater with 12 kills. Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) was the most efficient offensively at the net with 7 kills in 13 attempts without committing a single attack error. She added a solo and an assist block. Werner pitched in six kills with just a single error on the night.

Defensively at the net, Weinfurt led the UWW blockers with a solo and three assist blocks. She added 11 digs in the contest. Jaedynn Evans (Kalona, Iowa/Iowa City Regina) tallied a team-high 12 digs.
