The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team heads to Arlington Heights, Illinois for their first road game of the 2024 campaign. The Warhawks will visit Morris Field to take on the NCAA Division II Roosevelt University Lakers Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Warhawks are ranked 3rd in the latest D3football.com and American Football Coaches Association Division III polls. The Lakers are unranked in the most recent AFCA Division II poll.
The Warhawks opened the season with a big 34-7 win over then #19 John Carroll University in front of the home crowd at Perkins Stadium last week. UWW registered 439 yards of total offense including 286 on the ground.
Quarterback Jason Ceniti (Madison, Wis./Madison Memorial) took center stage completing 14 of 25 for 153 yards and one touchdown through the air. The dynamic backfield duo of Brian Stanton (Plainfield, Ill./South) and Tamir Thomas (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) were stellar combining for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground. The pair averaged over eight yards per carry in the game.
The Warhawks' offensive line had a clean game -- zero sacks allowed, zero penalties in 69 offensive plays. The line was recognized on D3football.com's Team of the Week for their performance against the Blue Streaks.
Defensively, Ethan Gallagher (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) tallied a team-high seven tackles while Trey Castella (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) notched five including 1.5 for a loss and a half sack in the game.
Jackson Fox (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) showcased his boot with a perfect 4-4 performance on extra points. He added 2-3 in field goal attempts to account for 10 of the Warhawks' 34 points in the contest.
This is Roosevelt's season opener. The Lakers were 6-4 last season with a 4-1 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
