The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Baseball team fell in the first game against UW-Stevens Point.
The Warhawks found themselves down quick, after UW-Stevens Point put together multiple rallies over the first couple of innings. After 4, UWSP was up 8-0.
The Warhawks opened up their own scoring with a two-home run inning in the bottom of the 7th.
Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) hit a solo down the left field line followed by
Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) with a 3-run homer to left field to close the gap, 8-4.
The Pointers responded back with 5 more unanswered runs, but Scolan blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to lessen the blow, with the Warhawks loosing 13-5.
In the second game, the Warhawks opened up with four runs in the first inning.
Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) hit a three-run homer to help the Warhawks out.
The game was halted due to weather at the top of the fourth. After play resumed, the Warhawks scored two more runs to go up 6-0.
UW-Stevens Point knocked their own run with a solo homer to get on the board. A few innings later, a 2 RBI triple closed the Warhawk lead with UWW only up 6-3. The Warhawks answered back with an insurance run in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the eighth, UW-Stevens Point threatened the lead again, a 2 RBI single made it 7-5, but the Warhawks got out of the inning on a 543 double-play.
The Pointers didn't allow the Warhawks anything in the bottom of the 8th, and then took advantage of that on offense, scoring 5 runs on 4 hits in the top of the ninth to take the lead 10-7.
The Warhawks were unable to get anything going offensively, with the Pointers picking up the 10-7 win.
UWW Baseball will return to Prucha Field next weekend for the WIAC tournament.
