The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater advances to the championship round of the WIAC Tournament with a 10-6 win over UW-Stevens Point. The Warhawks had 10 runs on 12 hits in the win.

The game started out as a defensive pitching battle, with the Warhawks getting six strikeouts over the first two innings to start things off. The Pointers didn't get a man on base until the top of the fourth and the Warhawks only had two in the same time.

The Warhawks kick started their offense in the bottom of the fourth, with Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) hitting in the first run. A pitch later, Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) stole home on a double steal play.

The Pointers responded with a solo home run, closing the Warhawk lead to 2-1. A huge 5th inning for the Warhawks extended back the lead. UWW scored 5 runs on 4 hits, including a 2-run homer from Eli Frank (Bayport, Wis./Bay Port) and a solo bomb to right field from Cootway.

Stevens Point added an inside-the-park home run, but the Warhawks still had command on the game up 7-2. The lead grew after a 3-run 6th frame, with the Warhawks going up 10-2.

The Pointers started to mount a small comeback, scoring 4-runs in the top of the 7th with the help of a 2-run homer. However, the Warhawk defense plus Cade Hansen (New Braunfels, Texas/Smithson Valley) on the mound tightened up to close out the 10-6 win.

Cade Berendt (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) earned the win, with 11 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. 

The Warhawks will play again tomorrow vs the winner of UW-La Crosse and UW-Stevens Point. The first pitch of the championship round is set for 11:00 AM
