The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball takes down UW-Oshkosh in both games on Saturday. After an exciting two games, UW-Whitewater leads the series 2-0 with two more games to come on Monday.
In the first game, both teams weren't able to get anything going on offense, with both defenses keeping runners off of home. In the top of the 4th, the Warhawks got on the board with a
Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) RBI double to put them up 1-0.
UW-Oshkosh was able to answer back in the 6th, with a sacrifice fly followed by a homerun to put them up 2-1. But Hopper put in another RBI double, tying the game up 2-a-piece after 6 innings.
After a quick 3-and-out, the Warhawks loaded up the bases in the bottom of the 7th.
Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) came to the plate and hit a base-clearing double to take the lead, 5-2.Â
The Warhawks quickly put away the Titans to close out the game, not allowing a single base-runner in the final three innings.
Scolan led the team with his three RBIs, with Hopper picking up the other 2 RBIS going 2-for-4 from the plate.
Cade Berendt (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) controlled the mound, pitching a complete game in his third win of the season.Â
In the second game, it was UW-Oshkosh who got things started quickly. The Titans put up 2 runs in the top of the 1st to open up scoring. The Warhawks would find an answer after
Eli Frank (Bayport, Wis./Bay Port) hit a two-run homer in the top of the third to tie things up.
The game was back and forth for the rest of the game, with each team making up the runs they allowed on defense. Heading into the 9th, the Titans and Warhawks were tied at 5-5.Â
The Titans got two base runners on, but
Darryl Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) made a play at a foul ball and then retired the runner at first the very next play for the final two outs of the inning.
The Warhawks had more chance at-bat to keep the game 9 innings, and Dominic McVay answered the call. With the second at-bat of the inning, McVay hit a walk-off home run to left center to lift the Warhawks over the Titans, 6-5.
The Warhawks will continue their series against UW-Oshkosh with two more games on Monday. The double-header was originally scheduled for Sunday, but will be moved to Monday at 12 PM due to the weather.Â
