Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warhawks and Blugolds draw after 110-minutes, UWEC advances on PK

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team and UW-Eau Claire remained at a stalemate after 110-minutes, 2-2. The Blugolds held the advantage in the deciding penalty kicks, knocking the Warhawks out of the WIAC Women's Soccer Tournament.

First Half
The Warhawks started the game fending off UW-Eau Claire's offense, which took five shots (two on goal) in the first 15 minutes.

The Blugolds offensive attack paid off, as Jordyn Czarapata (Muskego, Wis./) found a goal in the 15th minute.

Using the kick-off, the Warhawks recorded their first shot on goal after a counter-attack after the goal. But for the majority, UW-Eau Claire kept the pressure on the Warhawks, taking three more shots on goal.

The Warhawks kept looking for the long ball to get their offense going. On one of their attempts, the Blugolds had to pass it back to the keeper to curb the pressure. However, Brooklyn Carlson intercepted the keeper's clearing pass, catching the Blugold defense out of position. Carlson scored on the open net, collecting the equalizer for the Warhawks before the half.
  Second Half
The Warhawks came out of the half with a goal. Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) moved the ball up the field with a long through pass. On the other end, Maya Rebic (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) finished the goal with a long chip shot to put the Warhawks up 2-1.
It didn't take long for the Blugolds to find the equalizer, with Jayda Swopes scoring in the 49th minute.

The Blugolds put some opportunities on late, including a corner kick goal that was canceled due to a foul. The Warhawks held off the attack the final few seconds, sending the game into extra time.

Overtime
Heading into the first 10-minute overtime period, both teams would look for the golden goal to advance.

Each team had their fair share of opportunities, but neither found the needed goal. The game headed into the 100th minute for the second 10-minute overtime period.

Both teams remained stalemated after 110, sending the game into penalty kicks for the second year in a row.

Shootout
The Blugolds hit their first four shots in the shootout, while making the save on the first two Warhawk shots. With the 4-1 win in shoot-outs, the Blugolds advance in the WIAC Women's Soccer tournament.

The Warhawks wrap up their 2024 campaign with a 6-9-6 overall record with a 2-3-2 conference record.
