The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater fell to Coe College, 74-60, in their 2024-25 home opener.
The game was back and fourth for a majority of the first half, with eight lead changes in the first half alone. The Kohawks got out on the break, scoring eight points in transition. UWW dominated the offensive glass with eight offensive rebounds, leading to five second-chance points.
The Kohawks finished out the half on a 7-0 run, pushing them a 30-27 lead heading into the break.
It came down to the wire in the second half, but Coe pulled away from the free throw line as the Warhawks looked to play the timing game. The Kohawks converted 16 of 22 attempts from the charity stripe, taking advantage of UWW's 17 personal fouls.
Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./) led the Warhawks with 18 points and 5 rebounds before fouling out late in the game.
JT Hoytink (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) also had a standout game, with 14 points shooting 50% from the field.
Richie Warren (Racine, Wis./Park) recorded a double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds (6 offensive) and chipping in 10 points.
Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./) was also active on the glass with 7 rebounds (4 offensive).
UW-Whitewater dominated the boards despite the loss, pulling down 43-38 rebounds. The Warhawks had 18 offensive rebounds, but only tallied 15 second chance points.
The Warhawks will face Carthage in their next game. The matchup is scheduled for November 30, 2024, at 5:00 p.m in Kachel Gymnasium
