UWW fends off late Oles' comeback, defeat St. Olaf 83-80

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bounced back in the second game of the Buzz Levick Tournament and defeated St. Olaf, 83-80, in Waverly, Iowa.

The Warhawks got out to a 47-39 first half lead. The Warhakws dominated the paint, with 26 points inside the lane. UW-Whitewater kept strong on the glass as well, with a 17-9 advantage. UWW scored 9 second-chance points off of their 7 offensive rebounds in the first half. 

In the second half UWW kept their dominance in the paint, scoring 28 of their 36 points inside. In comparison, the Oles only had 10 points in the paint during the second frame.

St. Olaf's went to the three-ball to close the Warhawk lead, but they were unable to close the gap as UWW maintained a narrow lead throughout the half.

UWW had four in double-digit scoring with Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./) leading the way. Capstran finished the day with a perfect 9-9 from the floor, scoring 19 points and 6 rebounds. In addition, Capstran was named to the All-Tournament team at the Buzz Levick Tournament. Through the two games, Capstran averaged 20 points and 9 rebounds.

Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) added 16 points with two three-pointers and Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./) also had a strong performance, scoring 15 points & six rebounds

The Warhawks will stay on the road for their next game. UWW will face Aurora on November 20, 2024, at 7:15 p.m.
