UW-W Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week (Oct. 7th)

Cross Country

Men’s: Gunner Schlender – Senior – Brillion, Wis./Brillion

Gunner Schlender won the championship race at the Pre-National Meet hosted by Rose-Hulman on Friday night. The race featured more than 400 runners from 46 institutions including eight ranked among the top 30 nationally. Schlender captured a new personal best time, crossing the line in 24:08.97. The Warhawks finished second in the championship race behind the 2023 national champions.

Women’s: Katie Erb – Junior – Winnebago, Ill.

Katie Erb bolstered the Warhawks’ 10th-place finish at the Pre-National Meet hosted by Rose-Hulman Friday night. The championship race featured more than 40 teams including eight ranked among the top 30 nationally. Erb paced UW-Whitewater in the 386-runner field of the championship race. She crossed the line with a 20-second personal best time of 22:26.17 to finish 38th.

Football

Offense: Tamir Thomas – Senior – Running Back – Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls

Tamir Thomas helped lead UW-Whitewater to a 21-14 win over UW-Oshkosh in the WIAC opener Saturday. Thomas bolstered the Warhawks’ run game with 123 yards on 26 carries – an average of 4.7 per rush. He added a touchdown on the ground and hauled in one pass for six yards. Thomas’ scoring run came early in the fourth as he leapt over Titan defenders into the endzone for the 16-yard score to give UWW a 21-7 advantage.

Defense: Paul Kim – Freshman – Defensive Back – Janesville, Wis./Parker

Paul Kim had a breakout game for the Warhawks. In his first collegiate start, Kim led the UW-Whitewater defense with seven tackles including two for a loss of 13 yards, a sack for a loss of nine and a forced fumble. Midway through the fourth, Kim came off the edge to sack the Titan quarterback and cause a fumble. Although UWO recovered, it pushed the Titans back to a 3rd-and-19 and led to a punt on their final drive of the game. The Warhawks went on to beat UW-Oshkosh 21-14 in the WIAC opener.

Women's Tennis

Singles: Alex Repplier – Sophomore – Champlain, Minn./Champlin Park

Alex Repplier came out on top of the No. 3 singles draw at the Warhawk Fall Invite over the weekend. Repplier bounced back to win in the first round after losing the first set of the match. After an opponent was forced to retire in the semifinal, Repplier went on to claim the title with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the championship match.

Doubles: Ashley Adkisson – Sophomore – Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevensen & Megan Griswold – Junior – Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc

Ashley Adkisson and Megan Griswold went 2-1 in the No. 3 doubles draw at the Warhawk Fall Invite this weekend. The duo won their opening match in six straight games before falling to a pair from Division II Roosevelt. The Warhawks won the third-place match 6-3 to record the highest finish for UWW pairs in the doubles draws.

Volleyball

Abbie Dix

Offense: Abbie Dix – Sophomore – Middle Hitter – Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead

Abbie Dix helped lead UW-Whitewater to a three-set sweep of UW-Eau Claire last week. The middle hitter hammered down 9 kills while committing just 2 attack errors for a hitting percentage of .333. Dix added five block assists in the contest. For the week, Dix averaged 3.00 kills and 1.67 blocks per set.

Aubrie Krzus

Defense: Aubrie Krzus – Sophomore – Setter – Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South

UW-Whitewater setter Aubrie Krzus led the Warhawks to a sweep of UW-Eau Claire in the team’s lone contest of the week. She bolstered the UWW defense with seven blocks including a solo and six assist blocks while adding four kills, a service ace and 26 assists in the match. For the week, Krzus averaged 8.67 assists, 2.33 blocks and 1.33 kills per set.
