UW-W Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week (Oct. 21st)

Cross Country

Men’s: Christian Patzka – Senior – Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights

Christian Patzka waited until the last 2k to close the gap created by Wartburg’s Isaiah Hammerand who had built up a lead of 10 seconds over the field at the halfway point of the Augustana Interregional. Patzka ran negative splits for the 8000 meters, 12:02.3 for the first 4k and 11:50.4 over the last 4k to be Hammerand by just over seven seconds for the win. Patzka’s time of 23:52.7 was a personal record and broke the UW-Whitewater program record for the 8k.

Women’s Cross Country: Ari De La Cerda – Senior – Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee

Ari De La Cerda finished 41st with a new personal best time of 22:22.9 to lead the Warhawks to a top ten finish in the very strong field of 35 teams at the Augustana Interregional.

Football

Offense: Jackson Chryst – Senior – Quarterback – Orinda, Calif./Palo Alto

Jackson Chryst led the Warhawks to a 66-0 win over UW-Stevens Point Friday night. He completed 11 of 13 for 266 yards and three passing touchdowns. Chryst added 23 yards on four carries on the ground.

Special Teams: Tyler Vasey – Sophomore – WR/KR – Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge

Tyler Vasey set the tone in UW-Whitewater’s 66-0 win over UW-Stevens Point Friday night. Vasey took the opening kick 88 yards to the house – his third kickoff return for touchdown this season.

Men's Soccer

Offense: Fionnbharr Hartnett – Senior – Midfield – Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc

Fionnbharr Hartnett scored the game-winning goal for UW-Whitewater in their first conference win of the season. Hartnett netted the ball to the top right after collecting a loose rebound in the 79th-minute.

Defense: Mason Diercks – Sophomore – Midfield – Oregon, Wis./Oregon

Mason Diercks anchored the Warhawks defense in a 2-0 week. The Warhawks only allowed one goal in each game, with Diercks totaling 161 out of the 180 minutes. Against Lake Forest, Diercks recorded an assist on the opening goal. Against UW-Stevens Point, the Warhawks defense only allowed two shots on goal and one corner kick.

Women's Soccer

Offense: Jenna Laidlaw – Freshman – Forward – Aberdeen, Scotland/Aberdeen Grammar


Jenna Laidlaw came off the bench with some needed speed in the offensive zone against UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. Laidlaw recorded one shot in the contest, with 26 minutes of field time.

Defense: Margot Yelle – Senior – Midfielder – Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community


Margot Yelle went the whole game in the Warhawks' 2-1 loss to UW-Stevens Point. Yelle helped the Warhawks play a clean game, only committing seven fouls through the 90 minutes as a team. 

Swim and Dive

Keller, Daniel

Swimming: Daniel Keller – Junior – Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista

Daniel Keller was the top WIAC finisher in the 200 individual medley (2:04.88) claiming eighth overall to lead the Warhawks at the Wisconsin Showcase. Keller added a tenth-place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:28.00.

Denton, Jenna

Swimming: Jenna Denton – Freshman – O’Fallon, Wis./O’Fallon

Jenna Denton led the Warhawk women at the Wisconsin Showcase Saturday. Her fly split of 27.15 in the 200 medley relay led UWW to a fifth place finish. Denton finished eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:01.39), tenth in the 50 free (25.51) and tenth in the 100 free (55.53).

Women's Tennis

Singles: Molly Asfeld – Junior – Waukesha, Wis./West

Molly Asfeld completed the Warhawks' 9-0 sweep of UW-Oshkosh with a win at the #2-singles flight. Asfeld took the first set with a 7-5 win in the set tiebreaker. Asfeld carried the momentum forward into the second set, taking the match with a 6-3 victory

Doubles: Ava Andrae – Freshman – Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg & Crystina Lee – Freshman – Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian

Ava Andrae and Crystina Lee picked up the doubles point with an 8-3 win at the #3-doubles flight against UW-Oshkosh. The Warhawk pair were down 2-3 at the changeover but secured their match with 6-striaght games.

Volleyball

Alayna Jansky

Offense: Alayna Jansky – Grad. Student – Outside Hitter – Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago

Alayna Jansky averaged four kills per set in two matches for the Warhawks last week. Jansky tallied 20 kills in a five-set match against UW-Stevens Point adding nine digs and two blocks. In a three-set win over Carthage, Jansky hit .476 with 12 kills adding nine digs and four blocks.

Abbie Dix

Defense: Abbie Dix – Sophomore – Middle Hitter – Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead

Abbie Dix averaged 1.88 blocks per set in a pair of matches last week. Dix registered 11 blocks against UW-Stevens Point and wrapped up the week with four against Carthage. She added 12 kills hitting .429 for the week.
