UW-W Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week (Oct. 14th)

Football

Offense: Brian Wilterdink – Junior – WR – Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville

Brian Wilterdink was the top target for UW-Whitewater Saturday. The junior hauled in a deep pass for a 73-yard touchdown in the contest. Wilterdink registered five catches for 113 yards – an average of 22.6 yards per catch.

Defense: Ethan Gallagher – Junior – LB – Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township

Ethan Gallagher paced the Warhawk defense with 11 tackles Saturday at UW-Stout. Gallagher posted seven solo tackles adding 2.5 tackles for a loss of six yards – both game highs.

Special Teams: Tyler Vasey – Sophomore – WR/KR – Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge

Tyler Vasey returned a kick for a 95-yard touchdown Saturday to give the Warhawks a 10-3 lead in the game at UW-Stout. The sophomore now holds the UW-Whitewater record for career kick return touchdowns with three. He is the only player in the league to return a kick to the house this season – and he’s accomplished the feat twice in five games.

Men's Soccer

Offense: Aidian Martin – Freshman – Midfielder – Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls

Aidian Martin played a role on every scoring play in the Warhawks’ 3-0 win over regionally ranked Millikin last week. Martin’s corner kick led to the first goal of the game. The freshman made it 2-0 UWW with a fantastic shot from 30-yards out that just dipped under the crossbar. Martin added a second assist on another corner, this time sending the ball to the back post in a perfect position for a teammate to head the ball in.

Defense: Matt Vollmer – Senior – Goalkeeper – Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich

Matt Vollmer recorded a clean sheet against regionally ranked Millikin last week. Vollmer went the full 90 recording five saves in the complete game shutout

Women's Soccer

Offensive: Brittany Ellinghaus - Midfielder - Senior - Plainfield, Ill/North

Brittany Ellinghaus was a key part of the Warhawks four-goal night against UW-Oshkosh. As a midfielder, Ellinghaus helped control the tempo of the game, as the Warhawks blasted out a three-goal lead in the first 20 minutes of the game. 

Defensive: Belle Blauert - Defender - Senior - Anoka, Minn.

Belle Blauert added two goals in the Warhawks 4-3 victory over UW-Oshkosh. Boh of Blauert's goals came off of corner set pieces, with the redirect from the corner kick. Her second goal was a header into the net from another corner kick. Blauert was also a key part on  the defensive end, not allowing a single Titan corner-kick in the contest.

Swim and Dive

Men's Diving: Drew Schmitz – Sophomore – Appleton, Wis./North

Drew Schmitz helped the Warhawks to a dual meet win over Illinois Tech in UW-Whitewater’s first meet of the season Saturday. Schmitz won the one-meter competition with a six-dive total of 226.50. His total was over 60 points higher than the second-place diver.

Women's Swimming: Jenna Denton – Freshman – O’Fallon, Wis./O’Fallon

Jenna Denton led the Warhawks to a dual meet win at Illinois Tech to open the season Saturday. The freshman picked up her first collegiate individual win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.63. Denton was also a member of UWW’s first-place 200-yard freestyle relay squad that won the race by over nine seconds with a time of 1:41.48. She swam the lead leg of the 200-yard medley relay helping the Warhawks to a runner-up time of 1:56.68 – just half a second back of the leader.

Women's Diving: Jersey Schweitzer – Freshman – Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek

Jersey Schweitzer won a pair of one-meter competitions in a dual meet at Illinois Tech Saturday. The freshman opened the meet with a five-dive total of 145.70 before totaling 198.35 in a six-dive rotation.

Women's Tennis

Singles: Gracie Ha – Junior – Palatine, Ill./Fremd

Gracie Ha had an impressive week in the No. 1 singles spot for the Warhawks. As a team, UWW went 32-0 with four straight sweeps. Ha bolstered those victories winning 48 of 51 total games played. Ha tallied three consecutive 6-0, 6-0 shutouts before capping the week with a 6-0, 6-3 win over UW-Stout.

Doubles: Abby Weaver – Freshman – Wakarusa, Ind./Mishawaka Marian & Gracie Ha – Junior – Palatine, Ill./Fremd

Abby Weaver and Gracie Ha helped the Warhawks go 4-0 last week. The pair did not drop a single game going 28-0 over the four-match span. The duo topped Lawrence and Edgewood before picking up shutouts over UW-River Falls and UW-Stout Saturday.

Volleyball

Jenna Weinfurt

Offense: Jenna Weinfurt – Grad. Student – Outside Hitter – Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial

Jenna Weinfurt led the No. 5 Warhawks to a sweep in their lone match of the week. The outside hitter hit .700 hammering down 15 kills in 20 attempts with a single attack error against No. 21 North Park University. That attack percentage is third-best by a Warhawk in a single match in program history. Weinfurt added a pair of aces, three digs and four block assists in the sweep. For the week, she averaged 5.00 kills and 1.33 blocks per set.

Abbie Dix

Defense: Abbie Dix – Sophomore – Middle Hitter – Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead

Abbie Dix bolstered the Warhawk defense in a 3-0 sweep of No. 21 North Park University Saturday. Dix entered the UW-Whitewater record book with 11 blocks in the match – a mark that is tied for second-most in program history – including a pair of solos and nine assisted. The sophomore is now ranked third nationally averaging 1.36 blocks per set. For the week, Dix posted 3.67 blocks and 1.00 kills per set.
