The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team picks up another conference win over UW-Eau Claire, defeating the Blugolds 81-69 in Kachel on Saturday evening.
The Warhawks exploded out of the gates offensively, scoring the first 9 points of the contest and taking a quick 9-0 lead. UW-Eau Claire found their first basketball after an early timeout, but the Warhawks kept the foot on the gas, expanding the lead to 12-points just minutes later.
The Blugolds looked to come back, tying the game up at 19 a piece. However, they weren't able to overcome the Warhawks outstanding offense in the first half. UWW shot 64% from the floor (16-25) in the first half, making 67% of their three-pointers (6-9). The hot shooting put the Warhawks up 42-29 at the break.
A second half surge from the Warhawks put them up by 20-points midway through the half. The Blugolds still put up a fight, going on a 9-0 run to bring the game within single digits with only 3 minutes left.Â
The Warhawks kept their distance though, never letting UW-Eau Claire come within 9-points. In the final minutes, UWW expanded their lead from the free throw line, making all 10 free throw attempts in the final 2 minutes.Â
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) led the Warhawks in scoring, dropping 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting.Â
Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) continued his scoring streak, putting up 18 points. On the defensive end, Barnstable recorded six blocks, tying the Warhawk single game record.
Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and
Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) rounded out the scoring, Barker scored 13 points and dished out 5 assists while Capstran finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds.Â
Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) and
Elijah Lambert (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) had 6 rebounds each.
UW-Eau Claire's Carter Lichtsinn led all scorers with 24 points.Â
