The No. 18 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team topped UW-River Falls 78-74 on the road Saturday evening.
Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) knocked down the first bucket of the game before the Falcons rattled off eight consecutive. UW-Whitewater came back to knot the game 10-10 with just under 15 minutes to go in the first half. The run was bolstered by three-pointers from
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) and
Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove). From that point, the Warhawks held the lead the rest of the way.
UWW took a 37-32 advantage into the break. On the other side of the intermission, the Warhawks extended their lead into double figures quickly aided by an old-fashioned three-point play from
Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran). The gap hovered between 7 and 15 until late in the game.
With less than a minute to go, UWRF went on a 7-0 run. A three-pointer with 49 seconds remaining sparked the spurt with a jumper ending the run with 24 seconds on the clock and the scoreboard reading 78-74.
The Warhawks allowed a single Falcon shot in the final 24 seconds to seal the win.
Four Warhawks scored in double digits.
Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) and Chislom each posted 17. Barnstable was 6-8 from the floor and added a team-high eight rebounds.
Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) dropped in 16 points on 7-10 from the field. Capstran rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 on 5-8 from the floor and 2-3 from long range.
Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) addded a team-high six assists.
