The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team stayed close in the first half against visiting UW-La Crosse, but a three-point barrage in the second half pushed the Eagles out ahead to take the 85-75 win on Wednesday night.
UW-Whitewater opened up the game scoring the first 9-points, holding the Eagles without a basket 3-minutes into the game. The Warhawks grew their lead to 19-9 before UW-La Crosse put together a 10-0 run to tie the game at 19-a piece.Â
The rest of the half was back in forth and saw four lead changes and was tied on five different occasions. Both teams shot over 50% from the floor, with the Warhawks leading the way at 53.1% (17-for-32).Â
Coming out of the break, the Eagles put together an 11-0 offensive run to take a seven point lead only minutes into the half. The Warhawks brought it back within 4 points, but UW-La Crosse used the three ball to keep their distance, leading by 13 points at the 7-minute mark. The Eagles shot 75% (6-for-8) from behind the arc in the second half alone
In the final minutes, the Warhawks brought it within single-digits multiple times, but UW-La Crosse free throws sealed the win for the Eagles, 85-75.
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) lead all scorers with 23 points, writing his name into the record books. Chislom shot 10-for-11 to make 90.9% of his shots, ranking 9th in Warhawk single-game history.
Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) added in 21 points of his own, and added a tied team-high five rebounds.
Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) also pulled down five rebounds to go with his 7 points.
Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 18 points.
UW-La Crosse was led by Sam Grieger with 17 points.Â
UW-Whitewater will be out on the road for their next game. The Warhawks will tip-off against UW-Eau Claire at 5 PM on Saturday, January 27th.Â
